They forgot that Windows is a desktop OS and designed a landscape mode smartphone UI by accident.

@MadMadMadMrMim Chrome OS is made by Google and their last OS was actually a smartphone OS so I would lean to forgive their designers for not understanding how desktops and laptops are actually used.

@homo-lorens what type of UI is gnome 3 considered ? despite its memory leak problem I seem to see has been solved its a very nice desktop manager.

@MadMadMadMrMim Gnome 3 is a touch UI, visibly designed for tablets with its oversized icons and full-screen application menu. This is further reinforced by the fact that it's the only Linux DE to date that has full touch support.

@homo-lorens i like it with a mouse. i thought there was another name for it. heh.

@MadMadMadMrMim It works well with a mouse too which is a great achievement for the design team, but I don't think that it was the primary target.

@MadMadMadMrMim You can't sell a Linux DE without full keyboard support. To many users (sometimes to me as well) the mouse is lava.

@MadMadMadMrMim Microsoft calls their design language Fluent and it's visibly an iteration on Material with the specific intent of carrying well across input devices and display resolutions. Deepin looks somewhat similar to Win11 at a glance, but I don't think the similarity is deep enough to have a name.

It actually looks OK, if only Tik Tok wasn't there. I can already feel my brains musical.ly degenerating.

@Atahensic Ever since TikTok became popular I've concluded that you can do anything with the end user as long as they get to have fun in exchange.

@homo-lorens I'm still surprised how far the very definition of fun can spread for some people. No wonder that game design sucks as a field since it relies on terms like FUN.

Why not tik tok from the touch bar?
