I'm lower than a junior dev

I don't see the issue in that personally - if you're going for a junior position then the company is expecting to take a bit of a risk, and invest senior developer time in training you up and mentoring you.

At the point you don't need that anymore, then you can either jump ship or be promoted. Usually that's at most after a year or two in my experience.

    Minimum wage, minimum effort.

Actually a little more than minimum to feel if there’s any room for a raise. If there isn’t, it’s some cush while looking for someone who actually values your skills.

I was out of work due to economy crash, and was desperate for anything.

An acquaintance from long ago introduced me to some “reverse search engine” startup, and I applied. The asshole president offered me minimum wage to be a js developer, and didn’t budge. I begrudgingly accepted it. I also told him stories about how my previous bosses refused to pay me. He said “Don’t worry, I won’t be one of those!” He was one of those. Still owes me about two months of wages ($2.4K). Which is half a paycheck now, but. Back then it covered some of the bills and some ramen.

tl;dr Begrudgingly accepted remote minimum wage job; worked on the fun things, did some efforts towards the boring things, and just kept looking for work the entire time. Did a good enough job, and still got screwed out of pay.

Moral: practically everybody lies, cheats, and steals. Don’t trust them.

@Root Not sure how it works in the US, but over here that'd be a pretty cut and dry case at a small claims court. Either way though, absolute scumbag.

@Root You mean that should be a quarter of a paycheck by now.

Just judging your skill level from what's leaking through in devRant comments, you should be making >$60k/y.

    @bittersweet I’m making just over double that. ($124k usd/year. We’re paid twice a month)

@Root Ah, good! Two months, half a paycheck... I can't math 😅 Was afraid you meant going from $2.4k per 2 months to $2.4k per month.

Depends a bit on area of course, but that would still be quite low anywhere in the US.

@bittersweet It’s actually high, isn’t it? Or was a year and a half ago.

@Root According to Glassdoor, for senior webdev, $103k/y would be "normal".

Very tricky to define though. Here (NL) €50k would be normal — but cost of living, benefits and taxation plays into it. It's common here for the employer to pay for various insurances, car, holidays, pension, etc.

Even within the US itself salary will vary by location because rent/mortgages are higher in certain cities.

Also, the title "senior webdev" rarely captures the exact skill set. Some developers are solution architects, database admins or server administrators as well.

@Root But yeah you can probably buy more rum than me.

Well deserved though, for a screwdriver engineer.

    Is it done yet?

    Just... one more feature?

Could you make it so it can sort m&ms by color?
