I agree with other commenters, that both is better. You’ll be doing the learning by self-teaching part as long as you do code, so it’s better to get used to it from the start. But when you really getting started, a structured learning programme (from e.g. those online schools you refer to) can really help a ton. And then you can do some self-learning on top of it from the topics that you want to know more about.

I also agree with @TheCommoner282 that a community can be invaluable, especially for dealing with the inevitable self-doubt. My partner is learning to code rn, and I see the self-doubt surface a lot. It doesn’t really help that their community is me, a professional developer. However I’m trying to support them, they are inevitably going to feel not smart enough…

    both have pros and cons.

self teaching is good to get straight to the point, have freedom, but you need a lot of discipline.

online school is good to get some structure and learn in depth, but you can get frustrated by content you don't care about.

see what better suits you, maybe do both, there's not a right answer

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm doing online courses. Alot of self learning. Trying to network and find other Devs close by enough to maybe do some zoom and just not have to learn all by myself. If that makes any sense
