Tell them you're also interviewing at a few of the hf trading firms.

@atheist when they say how much do u want, what should I say? “What’s ur budget?”
  • 3
@darrenrahnemoon it's FAANG. Their budget is whatever they feel like, although job levels have roughly defined salary bands. Look them up first, know what you're going for. Also if you're currently "senior", that doesn't necessarily translate to FAANG senior.

@darrenrahnemoon unless you work at FAANG or a hf trading firm, FAANG are in a different league. 🤷‍♂️

@darrenrahnemoon Say you want enough for your friends to be impressed of how much you sold your soul for. If you can get it go $666,666 ($666.666 for you euros).

Other thing is TC vs base. Look those up too.

And get ready to do some mental arithmetic on the offer call. If you get that far. Rejection rate is "almost everyone".

Basically, saying you want xyz salary is pointless, because if it's a salary that is standard at FAANG, you're only going to get it at FAANG, so your negotiation power is zero. If they don't give you it, you won't get it anywhere but FAANG. Saying you're going through interviews with companies that they see as financial competition, then you have some bargaining power.

    Rambling over.

@darrenrahnemoon or double your existing salary and say, "let's start the discussion at 300,000"

@sariel big stonks move right there!

@atheist so my only leverage is saying I’m assessing offers from other ppl?
  • 0
@darrenrahnemoon 🤷‍♂️ they pay a premium. A sizeable one. You're better off arguing your SDE level than salary, unless you have alternatives you can point to.

Drop your pants in the interview to assert dominance

@electrineer Ah, I see you have worked with Weinstein.

information is power, the more you know about how much colleagues make and how much people in your position make in other places the better. it also helps to negotiate as a group, not alone

I'd say kidnapping the CEO's children could be a power move, but then again, I'm not experienced in corporate BS
