vane112803yI had couple of those, all depends who’s hiring and how big the fire is.
If you’re unlucky you can go to bar and they get you drunk and ask to go to their job next day to code something. Just talk loud in the bar or metro station about algorithms and you get attention from some guys who want to help you solve the problem, next day your working with them the other day you’re drunk mambling something and some other people want to hire you.
Life is only about being in the right place in the right time with open mind nothing more and nothing less. -

Some places do it, some places don't.
Some places do it, but give you a project completely irrelevant to the job you'll actually be doing.
Its just one of those FAANG or MANGA or whatever we are calling it these days things that others think they should add to their recruitment process. -
ars140753yOne of my best jobs was from a one time phone interview. They asked me some syntax and language stuff, and I had to spell out the exact thing I would write. But I didn't really code anything, not sure if it counts. It's very easy to tell if someone knows what they're talking about.
