nah, i mean... the effect he's having on twitter (and thus the culture war) is the only actual positive non-scammy effect he's had on the world so far.

by all means, let's continue to ridicule him for tesla, all the missed spaceX deadlines, and all the hyperloop vaporware, solar roofs, and all thaz nonsense, but so far this twitter thing is real and deserving praise.

@Midnight-shcode he's literally putting verification behind a paywall. all that's gonna do is give clout to people with the money and not actually provide confirmation of id, which is the entire purpose of the checkmarks. this is one of the most insidious things he's done so far because it's subtle but it's gonna have a huge impact in media consumption and ideology propagation. I'd say that's pretty on brand for this asshat
