Especially not at the frequency / watt usage shown here.
Yes the cooling by air has become less efficient, so temperatures over 40 degrees celsius are usual. The lesser efficiency has mostly to do with the complexity of chip design - too many different hotspots. -
kamen69232y@PonySlaystation It's slightly outside of normal IMO. Tjmax is specified to be 95°C and seeing the frequencies, it might be throttling a bit.
I have a 5900X and it has some spikes to low-mid 90s, but generally stays in the 70-80s under load (single or multithreaded doesn't matter much because it boosts differently). -
Don’t think everyone is getting this but it’s almost idling, CPU shouldn’t run at 100c except if you just finished something intensive.
To me it seems like poor thermal paste application, like it’s barely making contact or that it was forgotten. -
kamen69232y@Handskemager Yeah, somehow I missed that. If everything is working properly, even laptop cooling should dissipate some of the heat within seconds of stopping the load.
