Redirect it into something constructive.
Sometimes when I get murderously angry I'll clean my house. One time I scrubbed the grout in my bathroom with a fucking toothbrush I was so angry.
Bathroom never looked so clean.
Emotions are like water. You cannot stop the flow. The larger the volume the harder it is.
You need to redirect it so you can see the source of the water if you want to stop it. -
I normally don't need to control it. I just experience it for the few seconds it lasts. Then i reread what i wrote, make it a bit more cynical and less insulting - and submit it to the Internet.

gotta rest and get away from what's stressing me. eat, nap, play with my cat, color some flowers in my coloring book. if i can't do that i probably just destroy someone's day

Easy. You stop being angry when you realize that everything doesn't matter in the end. Everyone is going to die in the end. The earth is going to be engulfed by then sun in the end. It's better to enjoy this short life rather than being angry.

Depends on type of anger.
There's bad luck anger... Cup falls out of Cupboard, crashes... Shoe lace rips off... These are things where you can just laugh it off.
There's painful anger... The knife doesn't belong in the foot, the toe broke during SM session with a door frame etc.
Screaming and cursing helps a lot.
There's anger focused on subjects ...
Just tell them. If you really hate them, just tell them to die.
Then there is the kind of anger where you need an immediate outlet - either because your body cannot handle it or your psyche. Rare event, but can happen - most likely when universe decided that suffering shall be the only option left for your life.
Death of a loved one, severe health issues, life in danger, financial ruin - these kinds of things where it's just too much.
Then I really recommend to get help or at least talk with someone... And probably do what @Sariel recommended - do something.
Don't wallow in self - pity.
If you feel numb and unable to do anything - seek immediate help, e.g. ask a friend to stay with you. Cause that means that an emotional breakdown will happen and usually it ends badly when being totally alone. -
@Daibushi Every people took those facts differently, indeed. I personally took them with peace, rather than despair and anxiety. Reading books of Zen Buddhism helps.
Also remind yourself that despair won't fix anything and hurts you more. Despair and unhealthy state of mind lead to all short of sickness.
