So I know that I'll inevitably need to use macOS for some project or another in college but don't want to pay for a Mac (I already have a Windows machine and will be installing some currently undecided upon Linux distro onto an external hard drive). Would it be worth it to try to make a macOS Hackintosh external hard drive just for the couple projects I'll need it for?

If you need macOS, you have 3 options.

    1. Look into Craiglist for cheap Macs.

    2. Build a hackintosh (some are very cheap these days)

    3. Attempt to use in a VM.

@master98ofu that's kind of what I want to do with the external hard drive; make a hackintosh. I just don't want to have to spend money on building an entirely new system if I can get it to run on the system I already have (which has compatible hardware)

Have you checked with a professor or advisor to see if you'll actually need a Mac? I emailed a few different professors at my college and asked them if I'd ever need a Mac or if I could use OS of choice. I also checked all the CS classes offered, and none required a Mac machine. Don't assume and waste time and money (unless ofc you want to do that lol).

What are you studying that you would need a mac for? Unless it's iOS or mac development, you don't. Even then there's probably one in college you can use.
