Anyone got too used to ChatGPT until now google feels like a caveman tool?

if you tell chatgpt to write code that uses library X that does something it will provide the snippet ready to be copied

whereas googling it means you have to scroll through results, pray someone asked it on stack overflow before you, otherwise skim through medium articles until you find a code block or something

and yeah ChatGPT doesnt always write working code coz of the knowledge cut-off, i switch to bard sometimes or default to google

1 answer for 1 question isn't a good model for dev related questions. And given that ChatGPT is trained with data prior to 2021, I can't search for current trends.

I don't know how exactly you got used to it. I used it for 2 days and was done with it.

But you're missing one crucial part: if it writes the snippet for you, you learn NOTHING. You're shooting yourself in the foot in the long run.

Ah yes, trust the word association matrix more than proper code written by proper people, or properly searching for information and checking that your findings are correct. I'm sure it'll be fine.

I still find google faster and more convenient. ChatGPT gives me one answer, and it usually means I have to:

1. Think about the prompt at least a little bit, or else it will generate unrelated stuff

2. Wait for the response to be typed out

3. See only this one response and on top of that it might be wrong

I pretty much gave up on ChatGPT when it started generating made up versions and methods of libraries I was trying to use... or mis-matched versions with calls...

Not to mention looking through StackOverflow or forums you get the absolute advantage of only asking google in keywords, and getting several long and related threads. So you get additional information while reading through it. Like useful criticisms, alternatives and insights that can then steer my decisions further

These days I only go to ChatGPT to generate boilterplate or use it for creativity by having it list stuff that could spark some ideas.

I get frustrated with google when I search for something, and top 10 are 80% ads. So called "answers" bought by companies so their site shows up on the first page. I know because our company pays a lot to have our site show up on specific keywords.

I've been using Bing's ChatGTP search and it's been great. I know eventually that will change and the AI will begin with pushing me to buy some product or service.

"My samsung S22 screen broke, how can I repair it myself?"

Bing: "Sorry to hear that. Have you thought about purchasing an IPhone? Here are 10 places to buy and IPhone..."

Most likely will be if you want more detailed (aka, correct) answers, you'll eventually pay $x a month subscription.

@PaperTrail I really really hope that by then, there would be some non-profit organization who sets rules about AI and what is allowed in it.

(Something like W3C and the html, CSS standards)

If people plan to use AI, it should stay true to the facts and not giving ads or payed alternatives.

Yea I found myself falling into this trap. The thing is GPT aslo to be getting dumber by the day so I'm already finding it far less useful than it initially was. Sometimes it get you out of a jam if you issue is very obscure but 99.9% of the time it doesn't give the best solution

I was turned off by wrong answers of chatgpt. Not interested.
