This is why stackoverflow doesn’t really work. Yet somehow it does. It bewilders me.

watzon45887yThis story has inspired me to go spend a little time helping people on SO. Thank you 😄

Maybe he just doesn't really understand how SO works? That you can and should accept answers and such? There are stupid people out there, ya know...

Shisuki6037y@theCalcaholic If he couldn't find an answer that took OP 15mins to google, I'm pretty confident he doesn't know how Stack overflow works

salsero69867yIt's not the points that matter, but the feeling of having done good without expecting anything in return. Don't you feel amazing. ;-)

kenpeter9047yI make up something. Say I help 1000 ppl and most of them just walk away or say thank you. Perhaps the 999 person buy you some food, which amplife the feeling. If I help People and want something back in return. Does it mean I somehow become the random guy in SO?

Not accepting an answer is the most evil thing you can probably do.. because even when I am searching for something on SO, I tend to only look at answers with that little green tick.. For those questions where I dont see that, it is usually the 2nd or 3rd one thats actually right.. fucking accept the answer already dude.. you just wasted another 5 minutes of my life (15 if someone has written an entire paragraph right from how we evolved from apes and shit)..

For me, I just calculate the amount of time I spent on answering a question based on the sum of the following:
Detail of question, the research effort, askers rep.
If any of the first two lack you can go feck right off on the broom you came on sweeping in. Unless your rep tells me you know how the site works. -
SO is not as intuitive as it ought to be in that regard. When a comment is the answer, rather than an answer appearing in that separate section below the question with a clear up-vote/checkmark control, its up-vote icon appears only if you happen to hover over the comment. Not immediately obvious and not everyone hovers over the comment.
Also not obvious is knowing what verbiage to put into the Majick GoogleBox to elicit the answer one doesn't know to look for. Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know, or how to express it perfectly enough, which is why people turn to SO.
Dear, Random guy that I wrote you an answer on StackOverflow.
I spent 15 minutes GOOGLING the issue for you because you either were fucking lazy or don't know how to use Google.
I wrote an answer for you on your shitty question with -2 rep explaining how to solve the issue and you just replied thanks and didn't even bother to either upvote or accept my answer. Not only did I solve your question I did it to bloody help you and here you are with your attitude not accepting my answer, and replying with thanks that i feel like you didn't care for me writing your answer. You can bloody hell burn in hell. I hope there is a special place for you and people like you that magically go missing and never come back
