for real i can't imagine what all you people are doing wrong getting those blue screens in windows all the time reasoning your change to Linux. been using it like forever and had experienced some in the early days, very few in windows 8.1 when i was messing with some drivers and shit but not a single one since windows 10 while using it normally on a daily base.

sure, there is a lot to rant about in windows generally justifying a change to Linux but are you talking about windows 98 or fucking raping your system till it BsoD's just to point at it and say: oh Linux is so much better because i don't get BsoD's all the time? or are you using 10 year old hardware?

Same. I run Win 10 and never BSOD'd by itself. Only time I BSOD'd was when I messed up my display drivers.

Also installed the fall creators update with no issues what so ever. Completed within 20 minutes.

It is usually the drivers that are causing the problems, because avarage joe won't update his drivers after "upgrading" to win10

Most common case for windows bsod and linux kernel panics is the same in my experience, nvidia drivers.. especially that optimus junk

I'm gonna say it once, linux is awesome, but all the praise it gets is on servers...
Wake up people, if you want to use it on a pc, you have so many problems, take drivers for one...

I feel very insecure using windows. the WiFi card driver craps all over me, and I don't trust it to be virus free. also privacy concerns.

Linux has a big "it just works" factor for me. I know what it does, how it works, and after all it's just a personal preference. there's definitely no "waking up" involved.

(I do keep Optimus set to the intel card all the time)

Window 10 doesn't like dual boot it seems with me. It's really not rare that it crash on the first boot attempt ^^' Except that, I remember a special blue screen when I just tried to switch into a 3D/Virtual mode (I don't remember exactly) on photoshop. But my graphic card wasn't able to do it (that's why I was intrigued that I could click on the option). And instead of a error, blue screen :D

Same OP, never had a BSOD in either Windows XP or Windows 10.(Only two versions of Windows I've used on computers I've owned myself.)

I think most bluescreen stories are jokes. Most people I know that say that are joking. There are lost of other reasons to use Linux. Like the package managers, windows really lacks that functionality

@max-jak although probably not as mighty as the Linux pendants since windows 10 powershell allows for package management like registering providers and installing or removing software from the command line.

Blue screens are rare for me too, and have been for years, but the reason I use Linux is because Linux is brilliant, not because Windows is bad.

@HIGHphen I did not know that but it still is not as prominent as the linux counterparts. Look at the install instruction of most development software, there is almost never a reference to Powershell. In daily use, mostly in before Windows 10, it is more easy to install compilers on linux for instance then in Windows. There are plenty of reasons to use them both but for developers, in my experience, linux has great advantages.

Seems like you understand! I am a real MS fan boy because for me Windows runs very very well. I even have and old (9 years) first gen i7 laptop which bsod'ed only because of faulty memory. I have never reinstalled windows on it despite all the things I (un)installed throughout these years still stable and fast. Even been victim of some mallware (my gf downloaded movies and tv shows on it) which installed some rootkit that resulted in my credit card being abused but really, after all that it is still running very stable. Windows was quite stable starting from win nt 4 and only became better. And yes, I use and love linux too but unlike many others Windows offers great hardware support oob and so is just another awesome os.

Idk. Sometimes i get one while browsing, I got some by playing bf4, I got some after executing one of my (python) programs. Never happened when I was using windows vista or windows 8

@Celes Sounds like a little bad luck. I have a tiny Lenovo Yoga that I dual boot Win10 and Mint on. Zero issues. Mint even handles the touchscreen out of the box. And the Windows install is still just fine.

Look, Linux is great when you just want to do everything in the system like replace every fucking piece of it with a custom one.

Linux doesn't get in your way, if you write "sudo rm -rf /path/to/folder" the max it will do is ask your password ( witch you can configure not to... )

Windows on the other hand have a crippled ADM account where you actually can't do wtf you want.

Yeah you can fuck your Linux installation by doing that, but you usually know exactly wtf you fucked.

Windows is great on what it can do, and don't get me started on this gaming bullshit unless you are in the gaming industry.

Linux just let you do whatever you want. Sure it lacks some hardware compatibilities.

But remember it is maintained by the community, legally free. So yeah, its hardware compatibility is fucking great.

Bsod is just the tip of the iceberg.
If you don't experience it, great for you. You still have the same other design problem in the system, if they don't bother you, great.

As for gaming:

1) Lots of games play natively on Linux
2) Lots more run perfectly with wine
3) Any remaining games will play perfectly with cloud based gaming

So I have no complaints about gaming on my Linux desktop.

@Ffdk had that back in the days when using windows 8.1 mobile with a Nokia Lumia device. I think this is an issue related with the mobile os which is buggy af. best you can do probably is sell the device asap now they officially announced the end of windows phones.
