They couldn't be reasoned with, and insisted it would deter enough of the "internet trolls" to be worth it

gorsamp19507yTake a screenshot with a screenshot app (do not use built in buttons, that will confuse the customer) to prove there are alternate methods. Then take a picture of your screen with another phone, and tell them you have to put a watermark on everything, which is probably best handled by Arrowhead or Crystal Geyser, perhaps Fiji Water.

Fradow9167yI had to convince my boss it was dumb. I adamantly refused to do it, and after a while she dropped it (not sure she was convinced to date).

P1Ro3257y@mykro Recently i tried that and one page spammed debugger; command resulting freezing whole page ... :X

I've actually experienced a website that does this, I was really confused because I could still highlight then copy and paste literally anything on the site, only annoying part was that I had to use ShareX To take a picture of one of the pictures on there because I wanted to use it for an enginerring project.

Hade417yOf course for someone technical there's trivial ways around the protection. That's not the point.
This will prevent the 90% of other people from being able to plagiarize their content, which are probably the same 90% who think it's okay to just copy content from other websites -
neolium12707yDisable Javascript, use inspector, list all used images... there are many ways to get the images and the text

Well. Copying an original content from ones page is a stealing. Copyrights, rings any bells?

This was really popular in the 90s... I’ve actually tried implementing parts of it for the fun of it... you end up with a nightmare ux.
I still have to explain to clients “if it’s on the web it’s already on the user’s computer” -
Kanimaru7807yUse a browser render engine for each request and send them the screenshot back best drm
It's so easy 🙂

@mundo03 There is now, it's really new and highly controversial. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) actually left the the world wide web consortium (W3C) over this...
You can Google "Encrypted Media Extensions" to learn more -
mundo0349797y@21stCenturyJoku looks like current DRM offered by apple or google (and others)and affects only the html5 media elements.
I read a bit, and well, it looks like something that has been happening for a while now. -
@mundo03 Yeah, it's only for HTML5 video - it can replace plugins like Flash or Silverlight.
And while this DRM has been around for some time, it only became official spec this September, so it is a really new development. -
mundo0349797y@21stCenturyJoku i used to work for a company that foes online video, they removed all needs for Flash to play DRM about ayer ago.
That is why this not news for me, but i did not know it was not in the specs, thanks for the info :) -
eggory4367yIf a client is worried about someone 'stealing' their content odds are they're already dead in the water

Besides all the other ways you can still save the image, show him that you can even do something easier which is to just download a browser like Maxthon (which has many millions of users) and click the save images button and it can save images on a website lol. It can save videos too. Omg. There is no way to protect anything online really. There's always a way around it.

Press F12, click the cursor button, left click the image you want, double click the URL in the src part copy the URL paste into address bar -> profit
-
If it's not a CSS background image and it's not inside flash, simply drag the image to the desktop lol
-
Stupid request but easy money. If I liked the client I'd probably explain why it's a stupid request but hey if they really want it and are paying take the money.
