One day Boss was doing code review of my work
Boss to me: What the fuck dev1!?!? All efforts I spent to quit smoking and your XML routine gave me cancer anyway!
Another day, a colleague needed to make change to a program that hasn't been changed in looong time and sees a commit from our Boss done 15yrs ago!!!
Dev2 to Boss: Boss this signal catching routine sucks dicks! How did you become a our Boss?
Me to dev2: He sucked as many dicks as his routine did
Boss to us: Oh look! Performance appraisal is due this week. Bye-bye 7.5%
Here 7.5% referring to pay raise that is average pay raise3 -
Our company got bought over from a global private entity 3 months back (advent international) and the reciew process started and it turns out, im part of the bunch that may be getting retrenched as per the meeting we just had, our positions being redundant and just last week had a over the top performance review.. Now i need to figure out what to tell the family when i get home. This Fucking sucks im not going to lie2

Why are non-technical people put in charge of technical people? I get there's a stereotype that programmers aren't good with people, but that's not really my experience. How can I fail to achieve expectations when you don't outline any? How is "I didn't see you run enough scripts" a valid criticism when they're run locally from my machine with no record being created? Especially when those scripts are only for very specific processes I generally don't deal with? Seriously I was on the team less than 5 months come my yearly review and I'm already under-performing? I can't even switch teams because in-house recruiters always request the last performance review and mine sucks thanks to that asshole. Nevermind the one before that I excelled, but different role doesn't matter I guess. Some days I'm so tempted to cash out that 401k and just hope I find a better job within a year. Anyone have advice on dealing with this shit?5
