Can anyone recommend some android alternatives?

I'm not looking to move away from android permanently but I'm just curious, I enjoyed my time with UBports (fuck QT) and seeing projects like the PinePhone and Librem 3 just get me curious what is actually out there.

Currently rocking a pixel 2 XL but not shy on buying new hardware to test stuff out as long as it's within reason.

Currently had a look at PureOS (not available) and Sailfish, any others to give a whirl?

God damn you UBports, I just want to tinker with the OS why can't you just release a generic image for virtualisation -.-

Instead I'm stuck hunting a Nexus 5 down... Ugh

Just found an old project where I tried getting a version of ubports to boot up as an AVD... Fuck me I really wish I could remember how I was going to do this...

Still can't find a supported device cheap enough :'-(

Got another one of my boring questions for us all to hopefully discuss a little.

With all the talk about the Librem 5 starting to ramp up more and with my little delve into UBports, was curious as to what other devs would be interested in/want/need from a mobile Linux operating system.

For me it's simple but mostly creature comforts.

1. Consistency and convergence, give me the ability to run a full desktop environment along side the mobile DE but make it consistent between the two (Looking at you Microsoft with your continuum)

2. Doesn't loose the customisability of Linux, let me install any Linux application I want and customise the theme and icons (Something I have a gripe with UBports)

3. Have accompanying operating system with an echo system, so have a wearable OS, a desktop OS and mobile OS, having that tie between the 3 is amazing as a heavy android and chromeOS user.

Would love to bring some of these things to reality but don't have any knowledge of how to do it, personally would love to see elementary OS have a crack at this (Wont happen but got to deam!)

Well my nexus 5 showed up and got UBports installed on it.

Quite like the OS actually, yet to test it's desktop functionality but the only downside is the lack of developers, really suffers from the 'look at me! im an os too!' issue of there being almost nothing but web apps.

If you have a supported device I recommend giving it a shot, has a lot of good ideas!

So far, I'm not a fan of Ubuntu touch on the pinephone. I think ill plan on switching to PostmarketOS this weekend. It looks more bare bones from what I've seen (admittedly not very much so far) but looks like it's for more features working. UBports has a ways to go yet.
