I'm honestly tempted to buy an M4 Apple Silicon computer mainly for their ability to run local LLM models with unified ram.
overall I think they are too expensive for the offering, but being able to play around will LLMs without shelling out RTX5090 kinds of money is tipping the balance.
I wonder what apple people experiencies have been?28 -
huh figured AI was the best with JavaScript but it's been pretty subpar
it can't seem to figure out how to glue various libraries together. also keeps giving me outdated syntaxes
maybe I actually have to read the electron docs myself I guess... so lazy4 -
My previous company that I ranted too much over recently released their AI product. They advertised it on their website with 3 testimonies; The CEO praising the product, The CEOs wife praising the AI suggestion and their freelance marketing guy praising it also.
This new feature/product is also advertised with an outdated screenshot of our product (it was redesigned twice by now) and the other screenshot is of a scrapped feature. At least they had 1 correct screenshot that was used twice in that webpage
Also, they forgot to attach the license billing to this new feature and lost 1.5months of revenue because of this :D7 -
all the solutions in rust are always subpar
and it's not even the ownership stuff it's the syntax like with errors with stuff
you just can't be concise so don't even try it
write everything out imperative18 -
So we have a guy (Bob) leaving Friday. I am leaving him a secret admirer note and a usb drive. But in order to appreciate this I have another story to tell.
There used to be a guy (not Bob) that worked here once upon a time. He found a usb drive on his desk one day. It was loaded with naked images of another employee that was a guy (also not Bob). Also not Bob made a play, and miscalculated in the fact that not Bob was not amenable to his advances. So also not Bob ended up losing his job.
This brings us back to the story of Bob. He is leaving Friday. I am leaving a note he will find tomorrow morning that says:
"Bob, sorry to see you go. From your secret admirer."
I drew some hearts and a smiley face. As well as writing down a phone number. But of course the phone number is Ed's number.
Okay, I mentioned a usb drive. The usb drive is labeled "MISSYOUBOB". It has a folder on it named "My Photos". In this folder is pictures of goats.
I also sent this link to Bob:

Here’s why I pirate music:
1. 90% of my playlist is made by dead people. I’ll never pay for anything whose creator is dead.
2. 9% of the music I listen to is very obscure — it’s not on streaming services. There is no way to contact creators, let alone pay them.
3. The remaining 1% I bought directly from creators on Bandcamp or elsewhere.
Also, when I used Apple Music, at all times many of the songs in my library were unavailable in my region. Songs pop in and out of this state based on some ongoing, never ending legal BS perpetrated by those who had no hand in creating the music itself. Miss me with that shit. I want my entire library available to me at all times.8 -
I wish dev work was about the tech, the logic, the architecture
but annoyingly it's always about people7 -
g++: TWENTY SCREENFULS WORTH OF ERRMES.
the mistake: `v=ptr` should be `v=*ptr`.

What kind of music are you listening to while coding?
Is it instrumental or lyrical?
Sometimes songs with lyrics districts me18 -
i ain't gonna build a tetris game for a code test for a job that might force me to work in the office. fuck that shit. code tests are a retarded way of assessing candidates.7

Jira is gradually turning from a somewhat serious coworking tool into some sort of bloated social medium for kids with ADHD.11

Finally got paid (apparently they sent my money to the wrong account lmao).
So I bought:
- A Guitar Rig Kontrol 3. It's an old hardware designed for some specific soft, but it contains a soundcard, 8 foot switches, one expression pedals (continuus), 2 other expression pedals input, 2 audio input, 2 audio output. So I'll be able to plug my guitar and control FX from there. All of this for 50 euros at the pawn shop
Being a programmer helped me tremendously for electronic music because I can write actual drivers for old hardware.
- I also found an old bike on the street. Brakes and transmission, seat and tyres are fucked, but the frame and wheels seems healthy enough. I can get a decent bike for the price of parts and labour.5 -
Yeah turns out writing a shell is a whole lot more work than I thought
Fuck man, why can't I just find a cool project that is actually doable in a normal lifetime3 -
- went to the store
- get shot
- call 911
- cops arrive before er
- they're suspicious bc you're black
- ask for your license and registration
- you reach for your pocket to get your driver's license
- "he's reaching!", they say as they mag dump into you
- you die
- your family can't afford funeral while m$ valuation goes from 3 trillion dollars to 4 trillion dollars
- murica!6 -
> Ok, the client is performing this HTTP request, it's missing some parameters, let's fix it... inspector has this handy initiator tab, lemme just BY THE RINGS WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS
I still refuse to believe anyone looked at this burning pile of shit you insist on calling a framework and was like "yeah this deserves to be released"9 -
Yes, send me a screenshot of the logs. Beacause I love having to re-type the error you just got. If only there was a way to copy paste text in Slack!
I did not know I was working with my grandma...6 -
I was asked to work more in the backend. I came in as a frontender/ux’er. Had to do one small thing in mvc and now everyone is like whaaat, he likes that? Let’s make him the new ios developer. Yes!
*One of us! One of us! One of us!*
Meanwhile i’m going like, sure i like a challenge and i have a curious attitude but i had a tremendous amount of help from a coworker here?2
