We were already running a few hours behind the official release time for this brand new game we had been developing when one of my coworkers became unwell.

We switched on the games translation system and it turns out that every line of dialog had been deleted and replaced with it's ID... Took us a few hours to recover the existing dialog before we could release. One of the worst situations I've been in...

Are there any other developers out there who find that people judge their skills based on the color scheme they use in an editor?

I started programming with software that only offered one color scheme and have never felt the need to move away from it since I'm used to it.

While I'm sitting in the office, co-workers often come up to me, take one look at the fact I'm using a light color scheme and feel the need to try and convert me to the dark side as if that will make me a better developer.

Does anybody else experience this?

I took part in a programming competition yesterday. The computer provided to me crashed just before we begun and took five minutes to reboot. I wrote an inference engine to solve a problem that would have put me in the top 5, but they refused to accept my solution because it was seconds after the submission time despite them being aware I started later than everybody else.

Apparently leaving a lecture theatre is like trying to escape the bottom of a stack. We must make it more efficient!

Asked to speak to somebody who knows what they're talking about from tech support, at this stage I'm just pretending to do what they're asking because they clearly know nothing. At least they get to feel good about themselves after when I tell them they "fixed" the problem.

Had to take a test in C++. 2 questions, 2 hours. Totally messed up the second, then solved it in ~10 minutes after.

They accepted my second solution still. Luck was on my side.

Got a test in C++, two questions, two hours for an internship. Any advice, what should I expect?
