Ah. This explains why I haven't met any.
/* Single Player only, so... */ -
@whimsical > 'we should tell our kids that back in the day, we were so honest that we clicked the right button.'.
Oh, obviously. -
Yup. That was a good era. The worst that could happen to you, verification-wise, was a banner asking you 'Are you 18 or older?'.
-
Went to the store. On my way back, I saw this billboard proclaiming the 13th to be the day of self-love... so when I arrived home, I had a nice wank.
/jk
/* ...but only about wanking. The billboard was actually real. Made me laugh. Fucking hilarious for that very reason - self-love promotion. */ -
Probably yes.
-
@whimsical > 'You can generate a whole new harry potter book of 600 pages for a dollar. Deepseek official api costs 0,02 cent per tokens.'
...for now. Just wait until the people get overly dependent on those && then the prices will skyrocket. -
Heavily depends on a person. A true friend never betrays you... Those are almost universally very few that you have. Then, it's a hit-n-miss. In work environment there might be some cutthroating going on. Probably depends on the role in the company. Are you a threat to them? Are you competing w/ them? Those would be the factors that increase the risk of betrayal.
/* Hmm... nothing groundbreaking, really. */ -
Make low-entry people hirable, again! Let them gain experience to become seniors, again!
/* But the components... yes, make their prices reasonable, once more. */ -
I _knew_ there was a video of it:
https://devrant.molodetz.nl/preview... . -
@grayfox Indeed, we're mostly OK, w/ the core systems still running just fine.
I do wish the creators would show up to fix things, though. -
'Slim Application Error
A website error has occurred. Sorry for the temporary inconvenience.'
You missed the short era when devRant's cert had been expired, which has been renewed recently.
Some systems are down. You'll notice notifications, score, probably something else I'm forgetting !working.
Other than that: tech rants, drama, betrayal... you know... the usual. -
@whimsical That's true. People are overly relying on Google mail these days. I've had some problems creating accounts providing alternatives. Shameful.
Also, I was under the impression that the e-mail was sent, but landed in the Spam folder. If it hadn't been sent, that's another problem. -
...but 0xDEADBEEF && 0X8BADF00D are better.
/jk
/* Nah, all are great. */ -
Definitely depends on the company. At my current one I've heard 'These courses are mandatory, but, since the client doesn't pay us to learn, those have to be taken outside of the work hours.'... where the 'mandatory' status comes from the boss, !from the client.
-
You know... _sometimes_ it's the fault of the e-mail provider, though. I remember having problems w/ setting up e-mail alerts for SharePoint so that I would know whenever new items in which I am interested have been uploaded.
The system was ostensibly set-up well. Turned out - it was. ...I had to check the 'Spam' folder where all my notifications would go w/ a nice message akin to 'This e-mail matches our recent spam / malware collection'. Upon inspection, the e-mails were legit versions from the system I set-up, so, once I whitelisted those, I am receiving the ostensible spam that I want. /* ...because there's quite a volume of the uploaded items of interest to me, but yeah - I want that, still. */ -
So... which worm won?
-
@whimsical Both links work fine on my end. Maybe some script / privacy blocking add-on is in play? Could be the browser, also.
-
Personally I have just one monitor. For work, I have two. The second one... well, most people probably have a TV for that, as I just use it to display the games I'm testing... most of the time.
The link? Worked for me... once I had suffered through the slew of 'Slim' errors.
@Lensflare: try the proxied one: https://dr.molodetz.nl/search/... . -
@Lensflare If you're an NVIDIA GPU user, you're most likely familiar w/ the 'Game Ready Driver' vs 'Studio Driver'.
https://nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/... .
My guess would be development for the former to either improve the performance of the games or somehow make the picture quality better, while keeping the performance at the same level as w/o the enhancements. -
Well, good thing you already got another job.
-
That penguin of yours would approve.
/jk -
...spamming fuckers. @Ragnar to war! Go, do your thing.
/jk
/* Well... I miss the guy. He did a good job. */ -
I'm sure he's lurking around.
-
@whimsical > '(...) at one employer i just stopped showing up.'
Interesting. I had a colleague who did just that, too. I kind of wonder why he did that, though. The employer must've pissed him off, somehow... or he was just very unprofessional... or there was some other reason. -
@Hazarth Yup. I imagine being interviewed by an LLM would suck. I've seen a few vids && they weren't exactly filled w/ optimism for the practice.
-
@Lensflare Quite true.
-
@Lensflare > 'I had a Windows Phone'.
I still own one. 'Mass Effect Infiltrator' was the selling point. One of the best mobile experiences, given the touch screen-only controls.
Ah, the 'Xamarin' another familiar word. -
Hmm... I think the the source code of the 'Descent' has been made public for the reason of showing people what a released game's code quality looks like.
'Mike: The main reason is we figured a lot of people aspiring to work in the
game industry would like to see production "quality" code. There are two
reasons for this. One, you can learn a lot by looking at working code.
Two, people will see that you can write a decent game without writing
beautiful code.'.

/* An outstanding game, btw... I remember this being one of the first PlayStation games I played on the platform. 1st game I remember that had you control something in a fully 3D space. */ -
Indeed, fuck performance reviews. At least in my experience, those are mostly about things !related to actual performance. I have no idea how many times people had been bitching about me being ornery /* Snek's dolphin actually taught me this word, fun. */, even though most of the time I had been presented w/ some asinine idea or some retarded behavior from another party, so I would reply in kind. On the other hand all the skill-related scores were always on a high, satisfactory level, which I consider to be the only reliable && meaningful metric.
-
@Lensflare > 'In the meantime MS has killed almost every nice SDK and framework and you can bet your ass they will kill again.
So never invest in something that MS made.'.
/* Me, looking at all the Xbox console generations I own. */
Sigh...
/jk
I do like their consoles. Their controllers, also. Xbox 360's is still one of the most comfortable ones. Xbox One's is a good improvement, the D-Pad is good at last. Something Sony has gotten right since the PlayStation era.
But, speaking of XNA, I remember needing it precisely because the friend had been using it for his game, && he would send me builds that I had to compile myself. Fun times. So yeah, I also heard a lot of praise for the framework.
Windows Phone was supposedly a good one, too. Writing code, debugging, && profiling it was supposedly very easy, too. /* Unlike for the competition at the time. */
