I am currently developing an application, using Electron, Vue and FeathersJS. My plan is to make it open-source, and I'm wondering _when_ one should make a project open-source? Like, should it be near complete, or does it not really matter? One of the things I'm having trouble to be energized about is writing the css, and it's a bit of a mess right now, which is why I'm asking now. I have never made an open-source project myself before, so tips are very welcome. Thanks5

Day started out great. In the middle of developing an app, we had to evacuate due to bomb threat, and now we're not allowed to go home. A moped with explosives, mixed with nails had been found. Fml12

The way this if statement is written (across multiple lines) is really weird to me. Anyone here that writes if statements like this?14

So today I gave my superiors at work a piece of my mind about the pc I sit on (I was/am not happy about it). I am expected to use Photoshop and Illustrator on a pc with 8gb ddr3 1333mhz and no graphics card, except for the one integrated in Intel's processor, which also is super outdated. Like you couldn't get more than $80 for the entire machine. So, today I ranted towards them irl and my message has finally seemed to sink in. Fuck.

So, settle an argument between me and my dad. My mom wants to start programming, and me and my father can't seem to agree which language would be easier to learn first, where there's no shortage for jobs. My father says Visual Basic or C#, while I say PHP or Java. What would you recommend?22

My new computer finally arrived. Now I'll be able to run Visual Studio (which my laptop couldn't while connected to my monitor at the same time). 👍14

I posted a photo of my setup a while ago, for week 119 ( https://devrant.com/rants/1675608/... ). I have now upgraded my keyboard, mouse and screen and thought I'd share a photo of it. Have a fantastic weekend. I know I will!1

Since my question, in all likelihood, won't get answered on StackOverflow, I hope I can ask it here instead. I hope that's alright.
So, I am currently developing a Feathers + Nuxt boilerplate, and am using localStorage to store the jwt.
But I noticed if I set the localStorage with the jwt manually, it will act as if I'm logged in, bypassing the entire login-function. So I solved this by using an iframe with a script that clears localStorage (and log out the user, if logged in) when something changes in the localStorage (by using the eventListener "storage"). (I am also observing the iFrame if someone deletes it, in the console, and re-inserts itself).
My question is if this would carry any security risks? Like, would this be a bad thing to do, security wise? Is it alright to leave it alone and let users/visitors to set the jwt manually?9 -
Posted a question on SO and someone thought they could get clever and turn my Feathers + Nuxt snippet into a functional SO code (to preview or whatever). I told him it's not going to work for various reasons, so he deleted his answer and "down voted" my question. Thanks dude... Thanks a lot...

- Why don't you use jQuery and Ajax instead of Vue?
- jQuery, nor Ajax, is not really an MVC.
- Yes, it is.

I'm on the hunt for a secondary laptop. Gonna try this Linux Arch and use that laptop for development. Anyone got any suggestion on a relatively inexpensive laptop that would fit that criteria?4

We have a custom made CMS, where you can use templates (previous designs). Most of the time I see these templates with Javascript/jQuery that looks like this...
Edit: There is an extra $ in front of the first (function($). So like this: $(function($)6 -
Here's my setup. I don't want to remove my laptop to take outside, unfortunately. So, ain't gonna happen.19

"I've quit Facebook" - congratulations, and here is your medal.
Like, most that are quitting facebook raves about how bad it is, but what they don't realize is that they're bringing Facebook behavior to other platforms instead. "Look at me; how great am I for quitting Facebook"-behavior and actions are only seen on Facebook.
I don't like Facebook either (and haven't used it in years), but there is a phrase that is perfect for when shit like this happens: "double standard".3
