Doing it in VB is the dumbest feature request in the rant.

@abhishtagatya to be honest, I always felt that elementary was trying too hard to look good, and not hard enough to be a rock-solid platform (despite inhering Ubuntu LTS). If my elderly relative needed an OS, I'd give her elementary, the same way I'd give her a MacBook or an iPad, because it's simple and looks good. Can't see it holding up for devs tho.

I used it for a while (Freya I think?) -- I liked it, but it was (is?) essentially an Ubuntu re-skin, so I just went back to Ubuntu. I also had some suspend issues with respect to waking and screen tearing, which didn't help.

Although now you've piqued my interest to try it again...

+1 for writing stuff down. I use the bullet journal method, and being able to physically tick things off of a list gives a much better feeling of accomplishment (and hence, I'm more likely to do it!)

@No-one I work a lot in numerical simulations, so it's only a problem if the mathematical implementation is unreadable. Which, when they've nested several functions calls of uncommented, niche approaches to a problem, is ridiculous. I need to be able to trace the mathematics!

Yep, same here. Not sure why, but I'm always more productive when writing in Linux. Maybe it's because it makes it look more like I know what I'm talking about...

That, and if I boot in to Windows, I'll inevitably end up on Steam.

@No-one Oh no, I agree, over-commenting can be an issue. But if you're submitting code for review or testing, and there's a horrifically obfuscated function call that's been coded in to save a line or two of (more readable) code, then the methodology needs to be pointed out. Or, you know, entire functions with zero commenting.

I work on a prototype lunar lander, so it's a lot of PID, Kalman filters and sensor fusion. It's written mostly in C, with numerical simulations done in MATLAB and FORTRAN. It's very mathematics and optimisation-heavy -- lots of nonlinear control and differential equations.
