We used to do this more often - but to kind of bring it back - what is everyone working on this weekend?

I’m working on some new API endpoints for the awesome new devRant web version that @trogus made that we’re releasing soon.

Share your weekend project!

    Though Sunday is not weekend where I live, but I spent this weekend (yesterday) changing a database schema, because the client wants a new feature, which he insists that is not new and I had to foreseen it. At first, I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, and after a little nagging, I told him it would be ready by the next week, which is today. Just to find out that SQLite doesn't support altering a table for new foreign key constraints. So now, I have to dump his nasty data, recreate a table, and insert the data back.
    Totally shit work. Maybe it needs its own rant when it's done.
  • 6
    @beleg I was wondering where you live where the weekend was different. I looked up doriath out of confusionπŸ˜…

    @thevariableman oh yeahπŸ˜…, you know when you have bugs in your code but you'd rather just add more features, this is a great example of that.

    there's two arrays in the js with one containing the iso codes and one containing the language name (ex if codes[0] == 'en' than names[0] == 'English') so there's that…

    the names array has about 5 names missing so //TODO
  • 6
    @calmyourtities Why don't you use a dictionary?
  • 4
    @dfox so is this going to become a feature like a status bar, Your Day sorta thing?

    Btw. @dfox any plans to offer oauth in the future? It would be awesome to use it for other dev related project, "sign up with devRant" and if there's also a way to access the given points, one would have a "trusted" dev account immediately :P

  • 4
    @lokiiarora github.com/Epse/EpPos

    Portable photobooth using pine64 for a friend's upcoming marriage in Feb. Must be able to:
    * Upload to a nextcloud server I put up for the event
    * Send straight to printer
    * Use green screen and be able to select background image

    The last one is proving very difficult 😧😧
  • 4
    @calmyourtities awesome site. Starting phrase: “This is nice.”
    Ending phrase: “No.”

    Also, @Rekonnect would love this!

    I'm building a website where I can manage my knowledge on various topics, so I don't have to constantly re-google stuff I should have learned already -_-

    Started simple enough with topics, categories and data entries, but then I decided to add support for additional users, private/public pages, theme options (default dark theme, optional darker theme), commenting, favourites, moderation queue for flagged posts/users, etc. etc. etc. Now it is an unending project that will never be complete lol.

    Edit: And now I started refactoring the existing code.... Just because.
  • 5
  • 3
    @PrivateGER @Bitwise Not quite ready to show to the public yet, it has to be perfect, y'know? Lol :P
  • 5
    @wizzzard Remember, Devs are the best testers ;)

    Not dev related: I met people to watch Star Wars Rogue One in preparation for the new Star Wars. Visiting the premiere in original version <3 this week. Was on a metal evening and played Divinity Original Sin for too many hours. Now being with my partner enjoying life.

    Dev related: working on the frontend part of my startup, admirering it's complete ugliness.
  • 5
    @justwellbrock that sounds like an awesome weekend. What bands did you see?
  • 3
    I made that πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
    Code is so atrocious πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  • 3
    @shellbug yeah, it really was. Bit exhausted because of so many things but yeah πŸ˜…

    There were no bands this time. Just a bar metal setting in the local café πŸ˜‰
  • 8
    I connected my elliptical bike to my Arduino UNO, and the Arduino to my Laptop. I made a program that tells me my speed, distance and time I've been exercising. Also, as I sometimes get "stuck" using my phone and forget to cycle, I made the program pause my music when I stop cycling, and show a pop-up. When I start cycling again, the pop-up disappears and the music gets resumed.
  • 7
    Multiplayer online arcade using websockets, js, node, and SVG to mimic old laser screen arcade games.
  • 6
    Published my first android app! Only a simple recipe app, but I'm happy πŸ˜€

    Taking out my new yuneec q500 drone for its virgin flight now! Not dev but geeky :)

  • 7
    I helped create a very rough skeleton for a project someone very dear to me wants to work on in his "free time" (in quotes because neither of us know what that is). Turns out, I know more than I thought I did. πŸ˜„
  • 2
    @shivayl thanks for the tip. πŸ‘πŸΎ
  • 2
    @shivayl yup, designers call it "research".
  • 3
    I'm gonna watch the NEW STAR WARS MOVIE!!! Yaaaaay!!! β˜…_β˜…
  • 4
    @toXel 10h until the premiere here...
  • 2
    @calmyourtities
    I really liked the concept. It's really awesome and fun.

    **Bug report**
    Input: This is a test

    This is obviously less than 200 characters.
  • 2
    @github thanks! that's a known bug that i haven't been able to consistently reproduce, but ill investigate a big more
  • 2
    @calmyourtities well. It will be fun to debug an inconsistent bug. Extra good lucks for debugging it.

    Recently, I debugged such a bug which didn't occur always. In my case, the culprit was due to a race condition which lead to triggering another event sometimes before the mandatory event was initiated and hence caused the bug.
  • 2
    @github oof, sounds like you had fun
  • 1
    @calmyourtities yup. It was way too much fun.
    2 more such Heisenberg uncertainty bugs in my bucket currently.
  • 3
    I spent the week of Christmas installing a new staircase and making tongue and groove planks for the new hardwood flooring I will be installing in the upstairs hallway. Also got to lay out a bunch of custom wainscoting.
  • 3
    @maxsimon write a crawler to get some sort of "historical" data and then throw ML on it, to see if you can predict the results. Could be anything from your countries lotory numbers, daily comuters in public transport, lotto numbers or you could try weather prediction. All the measuring station/data as input an next days weather as output and see if you're able to predict something....
  • 2
    Not a project, but working to improve my concurrency/async knowledge. Realized during an interview that, since I haven't had to work with it much, I probably need to shore up my knowledge. Just going through the appropriate, 50 page section in my Bible (C# in a Nutshell).

    Also: waffles!
  • 1
    @calmyourtities I like it lol
  • 1
    @dfox

    So what are the new api endpoints?
