Struggling with Linux driver bullshit today. Trying to update the graphics driver completely hosed the networking, second monitor (HDMI), and I assume a bunch of other stuff. I tried using the Additional Drivers utility and it nearly made my system non bootable. So on my second computer I had to look up how to unfuck my machine using the command line. Yet another classy set of bullshit from Gnome. The driver for all this was trying to fix some java programs that show wonky depending upon where the window is on my second display. After unfucking the machine I found that resetting all the display settings for both displays magically fixed the java program fuckery. How the fuck? Literally setting things like display resolution, default display, moving virtual displays around. This bullshit somehow fixed display problems with java apps.

So I decided there is a perfect OS out there somewhere, but it isn't iOS, it isn't Windows and it isn't Linux. I decided to make the Perfect OS, or P-OS for short. Gonna use P-OS as a fake OS in my games I make. lol

I did go ahead and install KDE in parallel today. Maybe this will help with my sanity. Tired of tech in general I think. Every little thing makes me want to be a hermit and live off the land in the mountains with the sasquatch.

@Demolishun I think there's no other sector where people fantasize so often about quitting and go farming as IT. How's your game going?

@retoor I dunno, relatives keep dying. Tired.

@Demolishun the period dying relatives will end automatically. My condolences

You can’t use POS. That’s already what Windows is.

    @retoor @Demolishun
well i guess im lucky... or unlucky, im not actually sure.

Most of my relatives (the genetic and\or married a genetic) ones are alive.... but most of them arent people i want in my life.

dont get me wrong, they arent criminals or human trash... they just are the type to think that never speaking about things that arent happening that second or in the future is healthy. Anything\anyone who isn't defined as "normal" is a bad thing.

Any form of therapy or psychiatry is totally unnecessary to consider engaging in cuz they can function irl and have no issues because they keep locking them away like a unique variety of a Matryoshka (russian nesting doll). it just has locks on every level, wears a different mask and portrays made up events like the trope of a forest someone stumbles into, getting trapped and hypnotised into a sense of comforting delusions while slowly stealing your life force.

im good at making OSes, but driver issues>learn hardware\c-like skills

@awesomeest we don't meet with the family of my mom's side. Nothing wrong with them, we're both pretty known family in village but just don't have smth to say to eachother somehow.

I started to make an OS a while back but I realized it would never have network capabilities so I gave up. It was fun tho. Defining the entry point in ASM and stuff. It was educational

@retoor ever need base level networking... just ask

@awesomeest I'll keep it in mind! I don't know if have the stamina to build a whole OS. It's probably rewriting time after time before you have some good base. I did a few weeks about my regex parser. Now have version three. This one works great is in use now. Still, there's a buggy (not sure if i fix that one, it's bad input) and in some parts slow. The only target was faster than c regex and still a bit decent code. It wins 50% of tests or so. I implemented some performance tricks but they all had a situation they weren't usable. It always broke some test.

Long story short: regex interpreter already made me crazy and failed to make it faster than c regex, imagine an OS.

I did make a small start on an VIM-like editor tho. That's maybe my new project

@retoor probably be better to just build a better Linux distro. Yeah Linux has problems but it ain't shit garbage like Windows and Mac. I think there is a better window manager trying to get out of Linux. Linux is pretty amazing and it is a middle finger to proprietary OSes.

@Demolishun building a Linux OS is more configuring that programming i guess. Ironically, I hate configuring. Making things from scratch is the fun part - even if the app sucks a bit. It's investing in knowledge

@retoor yeah, developing a website based on a CMS (especially something like sitecore) is also more configurating than programming.
I hated that shit in my previous job.

So, it turns out the nvidia driver fixes the issue with java not displaying correctly on second monitor. But it breaks wine...

@Demolishun nvidia giveth, and nvidia taketh away.

@retoor i do poorly with configuring... especially if there's a UI involved. I cant even stand NetworkManager on linux...

I tried to tolerate it... i really tried... ended up sending out a memo-esq message to my people. Basically 'NetworkManager is annoying me... ofc ill be doing the vast majority of the networking (definitely one if my main skillsets and the servers are VERY local to me)... but if anyone has an issue with me killing damn NetworkManager and going back to my network-scripts, say something now or im tearing it a new asshole"
