retoor25061dHaha, beautiful. So accurate. Also, do not trust me if I invite you to play a game. I don't play any :P Also, take never your PC with you, you'll end with xubuntu on it and a VIM as heavy as vscode with backspace often not working (had that for a while) :P
@BordedDev I skip ncurses even :P I do that myself too. Do you know kilo editor? An editor of thousand lines of C code without ncurses! It's an ultimate resource for if you want to build your own text editor. It's from the maker of Redis. Very clean code. -
retoor25061d@Tounai maybe the opposite, i got tired from pragmatic shit :) If you master the shit under the hood, you master all.
-
@retoor Interesting, I'll keep it in mind when I want to touch console code again :D since ncurses isn't cross platfrom
-
retoor25061d@BordedDev I think terminal applications with a nice gui per definition are not cross platform. The ansi codes and stuff does not match between terminals I guess. Maybe it's not the case anymore. Didn't touch a windows computer in more than a decade. That's also my excuse if someone asks me to repair smth. When it comes to a iPhone I literally don't have to make excuses, I don't understand those things at all.
-
@retoor Well that's intentional, they literally serially pair components, use a screen from another iphone == brick
For terminally, I can imagine there being a couple of edge cases, but from my experience of toying around with writing an OS a lot of the standard stuff is the same -
UberSalt30819h@retoor You reminded me of the geeky chick in my class during university, she was pretty brilliant also to be honest and she had a huge appetite for learning, she didn't watch any movies and listen to music, she didn't even know the name of a single actor.
Also she said that she liked to study in bed till she fell asleep lol, she was so smart she even corrected the professors all the time, crazy.
Ended up getting a scholarship in one of the best universities in France, it sure pays to have that "gene" -
retoor250617h@UberSalt I take that as a compliment but I don't see my bed at all. I have programming sprees lasting more than 24 hours (measured) 😂 I don't watch movies indeed and music, nightcore play lists on repeat on headphone, I just let it play. Meanwhile in the back youtube is on full time and watch it if smth interests comes by and I put off headphones. But often a day in quiet - no headphones / TV is also possible - I can often just forget to turn them on. Too busy. I'm not that smart, I'm just very devoted and spend more time on coding than 99.44% according to codeium and type more than 99.90% 😂 Sick stats, codeium is a popular plugin, it's maybe better than copilot I've read. Didn't try copilot myself tho. But since I'm that high in ranking I won't switch tool anyway. Does copilot even work under vim? I use 70% vim with codeium and 29% vscode with codeium and 1% geany without. I studied system administration and corrected teachers too. I had a personal letter with diploma (next)

retoor250617h@UberSalt that was addressed to "pain in the ass" in a fun way 😂 I didn't even complete all modules of my education because I made a deal to do a longer internship instead. Internship is required to complete education and I got not only paid as almost only one but even got a raise while doing it 😂 It was impossible not to give the diploma 😂 I often doubt myself if it was even legal to give my diploma 😂 But it's for system administration, not very impressive but I partied a bit to hard not caring about school when I was younger. I do not really regret it - but not having right papers is big secret. No body asks me since I have a fat resume. If they knew they would never hire me. Only one company literally asked for the papers. But you see respect disappearing in people's eyes if you tell them you didn't do university :(. Maybe will do open university in far far future. The "gene" :p Heh, it's kinda gene, I work hard, but it's just autopilot so don't need credits for it :p

retoor250617h@UberSalt having interest in tech since I was a little kid is the biggest luck I've ever had. And that's how I consider it. Just luck. Having luck in having an interest that brings you somewhere and what makes it easy for you to develop in it. I had a while that I lost my drive and experienced for a while how work was for most people - I considered it a literal hell. I would say those people are doing way more effort than me. Doing smth 24/7 what you like is ten times easier than doing smth 8/24 what you don't like. I have so, so much luck 😂😂 I hope you have that luck as well :)
Don't say too nice things to me, I get cocky 😂 God punished me for being cocky once already 😂 -
UberSalt30815h@retoor I don't think I have found my passion yet, I mean I like tech and I sorta like what I do but not in an uber mega dedicated way like you and the example I cited.
Probably because someone like you is an extreme (in a good way) and I am just an average joe, also my job forces me to do a bit of everything, I used to like that at the beginning but not anymore, flexibility and agility and all that fancy management crap makes you a master of none and I hate that.
For my next move I hope I can find something that will allow me to completely focus on that one thing only that I can enjoy and become expert at. -
retoor250613h@UberSalt if something gives you energy instead of costing than it's the right thing to do. I liked my work so much that I was high of it and happy for many years. The more work, even better. Costed me relationships tho. But there's a way to fix broken relationships: work 😁 Sadly, now I'm 35 with no kiddo's. I had nothing besides work in my adult life in exception of bars, swimming and did capoeira for a while. Now I don't work and now I have nothing but time but I'm happy as fuck. I found the drive for coding back that I lost due some bad experiences with bad environments regarding software development. Worst was passing over my lead role to a friend. He changed my performance idiology to a quality idiology. Nothing got delivered anymore. Even worse was that some people liked it. How the f can you like not delivering but have a nice piece of code not in production. Beautiful code is nice but not worth it if the delivery fails so hard that the product won't make profit.

retoor250612h@UberSalt but I was pushed aside because oooeeeh, quality. Who cares about a Ferrari that doesnt drive. I prefer a Volvo that keeps driving forever. A Volvo is fucking great right. That was the quality, it wasn't that we delivered Kia's. The price has been paid. Not a friend anymore, he moved to different country, company still works efficient. The manager who didn't listen to my advise anymore found out he was wrong and ran away from company. Everything is fucked there now. That company had demotivated employees in general. So, I already had demotivated collegues, then, I was happy by hiring a friend and that made it worse. Made me lose my drive, thinking it all doesn't matter anymore and no one cared. Now I've learned to be happy creating stuff with doing it for myself instead of others. That I care and others don't was a big issue. It made me a weird one while actually just doing my work great. So, I didn't know what do in my life. Don't want to be weird and don't wanna slack
