Awlex182758yI am being forced to use mac for office work. The amount of missing shortcuts is displeasing me gently

gustash24518yYes, forced to use Windows 8.1. If my hate for Windows wasn't bad enough as is. On my next job I'm definitely using my computer if they don't let me install Mint on theirs.
-
shasha3448yMy company uses only Macs as dev machines. I don't miss Linux that much (if at all). It is Unix in the end.

flag020328yThat would be the case for most people I guess.
not workplace but I have to use windows 7 & XP at college. really hate it -
morgh6828yI prefer Linux for dev, but I have to use Windows at work. Although I don't mind that much. I configured my windows box to be as much as a Linux machine.
Using cygwin, an app launcher and dexpot for desktop management -
we have devs, systems and desktop support in the same room (which is fantastic btw) and we have a good mix. since our users are all on windows, that's what everyone uses BUT devs all have Macs and a PC. most of the dev output is web based, so it really doesn't matter what they use) Linux is mostly left for servers, but nothing is stopping anyone as long as they are productive.
with PowerShell making its way to Linux and Mac, it may be more normal for systems and desktop to use linux if they choose. -
fyroc58758yHonestly I'm not a Windows, Mac, or Linux guy. As a developer I am comfortable with all major OSs. Each OS has their place and as a developer, if you are not comfortable with a specific OS you are only hurting yourself. Do I have a preference? Of course, but it depends on what I'm doing. For home, I prefer my MacBook because of how organized I can have it. For work, I prefer my windows machine that work has given me because it's easier to use given the VPN, and how my team uses windows as well. I use Linux for my servers because of how the have the least overhead and I can just ssh into them easily.

pawnstar478yI had to use Fedora for my work (all our research machines use Fedora, and we package custom builds for them routinely) - it's different from Arch in just enough confusing ways to trip me up.

somebody7338yYep because our mail setup was poorly configured Exchange, ended up with running Outlook in VM - so I basically had e-mail client which had troubles processing e-mail (Outlook is bad at mailing) and occupied 40G of my disk space :-)

kshep9232708yI'm forced to not only use Windows, but I'm restricted to technologies that are compatible with Microsoft stuff. I swear my hate for IIS grows stronger every day.
