    @C0D4 Turns out I just had to update it. Didn't get my free 10 GB though :(
  • 2
    @ScriptCoded I had to swap it to Warp+ in the menu bar for it to show the 10GB.

    @C0D4 Didn't work. Filed a bug report as that's what Cloud flare have been telling others to do in the comments of their blog post. Fingers crossed! :)

    Wouldn't want to use it. A VPN is supposed to be an enterprise technology, not one for privacy, anonymity or whatever (though it can most certainly be used for certain privacy purposes). Companies left and right just shooting us customers with VPN solutions worries me, especially when it's coupled with their DNS service too (which is a decent one, my local resolvers use it as well). There's no good reason for Cloudflare to be releasing this however, and even less of a reason for me to use it.. I'm sceptical about the whole thing to say the least.

    I see a lot of marketing bullshit that is worth nothing.

    Half of what they propose is technically unrealistic and the privacy statement is not provable.

    Face it, you're internet connection and the data over it is owned and controlled by big companies, it doesn't matter which company that is, none of them do it for a beneficial purpose.

    @Condor I use some of their other services, for dns though... can't say I really do beyond a being a proxy for internal hardware.

    Unfortunately a major limitation to being able to hijack dns on ios at least, is you can't unless it's through a VPN for Cellular data, for wifi it can be setup manually.

    @Floydimus hard to say personally
    I can only go off there privacy statements and posts.

    But take from this what you will, they "seem" on the right track.

    I don’t understand why I should use it.

    I updated mine yesterday. I turn it on at times and turn it off other times. Either way, there’s no privacy anywhere anymore. Just that this helps somehow but then... oh well. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    $5 a month for a vpn you only can use to connect to the cloudflare servers and that only on your smartphone is way to much and offers way too less value. Or i don't understand it enough to see on how this is worth $60 a year.
    I would pay $5 a year as i like their 1.1.1.1 dns.

    @vane @heyheni

    This about sums it up better then I can this early.

    There are a couple of different modes in the app that you can use: 1.1.1.1, WARP, WARP+, and WARP+ Unlimited.

    Free services:

    1.1.1.1 lets you protect your DNS queries by encrypting them with HTTPS and TLS. We use our 1.1.1.1 public DNS resolver to resolve your queries and prevent ISPs from spying and selling your data. This was our original product offering, and it will always be free.

    WARP is 1.1.1.1, but better. We still encrypt your DNS requests, but we leverage our global network of data centers and a more modern protocol to make your internet even faster. WARP will always be free for our users.

    With WARP+, we route your internet requests to avoid Internet traffic jams, making it even better. WARP+ runs on a limited data plan — the more people you refer, the more MBs of data you can use with WARP+.

    Paid service:

    If you would like to secure all your mobile traffic without any data limits, you can get WARP+ Unlimited by buying our monthly subscription.

    @C0D4 So from what I understood they are “good guys” and ISP are bad guys so they offer dns and some sort of network proxy cdn (vpn like solution).

    Now instead of sending them dns queries I will also send them requests to websites. And they offer ssl certificates to those websites.

    They also just filled IPO so actually investors will decide what to do with this “probably not recorded traffic”

    Hell no !!!

    @vane In Some countries, sure.
    Australia being one of the nations out there with data retention laws, the ISP is by far the bad guy in this case 😏

    Less data they have, the less I need to worry about, but at the same time, choosing who to provide this data to comes down to a trust thing anyway and there's never anyway of knowing which companies you are using services from even with normal VPNs, you're still tunnelling data to someone.

    @C0D4 I understand the purpose, caching of content is one of problems of the modern internet. Like video sharing services are putting blackbox inside ISP, purpose of CDN, geoip etc.

    I understand the purpose of trying to centralize things and ok if you don’t have much choice and you can take bad or less bad thing.

    My point is if you have a choice don’t do it and try to use decentralized services.

    Otherwise we will end up with one big pile of shit without alternatives.
