I've got 9 applications open on 2 screens, but I hate not working in full screen (maximized) windows.

Virtual desktops don't solve my problem, I just get lost between them.

@Root I hate swapping between them, "win/start plus tab" if I need to see where I'm going. I've usually got multiple instances of the same applications open though.

If I get to much open at once I just close what I'm not using.

@C0D4 I use a MacBook for work, and its virtual desktops are really intuitive. I am a fan.

@C0D4 whut. I recently upgraded my i3 config from 9 to 18 workspaces. I currently have around 13 of these in use.

I'm also assigning applications to these workspaces. That makes it way easier to remember what is where. Like wsp 1 and 11 are editor windows, 2/12 terminals, 3 browser for monitoring, 4 mail, 5 browser for browsing, 6 no fixed assignment, 7 usually not used, 8 chat window, 9 softphone and password manager, 19 notes, the rest is even more terminals. Or editors or both

@c0d4 I always have 9 of them, as I work on multiple projects dedicating several workspaces them to different contexts saves a lot of headaches.

Usually, I have 1 wspc for my personal stuff. Another - for my employer's stuff. Then a few for client 1 (browser, tmux, IDE, etc.), a few for client 2 (similar layout), etc. Then there is one for VMs, a few temporary ones (spin up a LO Calc [Excel] to do some comparisons there, etc.), and.. before you know all the 9 are filled :)

@netikras I prefer it on OSX. The preview and ease of moving windows between desktops is just amazing.

For my eye condition it’s a nightmare.

@Root I used to love desktops, but I stopped using them for whatever reason, became hard to keep a track of, I started using witch, the better tabbing software and it's ok but it only works on my hackintosch because my MacBook Pro can't handle it for some reason, alt tabbing triggers a 10 second plus delay for the window to come up, on my 8 core hackintosch it's instant so, weeeeird.

My computer can handle all the open windows though so why not

@netikras I’ve got a similar setup on my i3, but how did you specify certain browser session for monitoring and another for browsing or do you just set it up manually for the monitoring one?

@ddickenson different chrome profiles did the trick for me :) With the disabled auto-close-tabs-on-browser-exit option. This way it's a "set it up once" kind of thing
