*Conversation about the loan*
HR: what do you expect?
Me: Dunno, I've heard you pay any student about 15€/h, so that's my expectation
HR: Jeah, correct, but do you think you're worth that?

Excuse me what the fuck?

“No, I’m worth at least 30€/h”
  • 15
Consider that an opportunity to explain more about your experience and expertise. I know for a fact that many devs out there are not worth that. It is a common question although it might sound, well, harsh.

Don't take those kinds of questions to heart.

@AleCx04 I am not even worth 15 perhour, at least for my current workload. But that is not really my problem :/ .

Just so you know a "loan" is when you lend something and you ow them.
What you are looking for is wage, salary or pay.
The Dutch have "loon" (translates to wage) so perhaps that tripped you up.
Now your English is perfect; you are so worth it.

Kidding aside when students come because the pay is good and you made it sound like that they probably want to know what you bring to the table like @AleCx04 said. They could have gone about it a lot better though, this can easily be interpreted as offensive and you don't want to give that feeling to a candidate.

@hjk101 since Location is Germany, it might be more the word "Lohn" which translates to salary.

The question really was quite a weird one. Probably they had cases of students, who were working for this more, but hat no skills whatsoever. But then again, the question could also be asked differently

    @hjk101 we also have Sold.
Sold: wage for people associated with the gouvernment(soldiers, civil servants, ...)
Lohn: wage for people who work outside of the office
Gehalt: usually used for people who work in the office, except that its the literal the same.

@AleCx04@ExtremNerd this! Sometimes you get asked for a self assesment and that is where you gotta sell yourself, work it !
