How long can you work in a role with no potential that bores you shitless but pays an astronomical amount?

Guess that depends on your priorities. As munny is not my top priority, but only a neccessity for keeping a roof over my head and feeding my family, and as I need to be challenged by whatever I do, I would start looking for a change the minute I get bored with my role.

How/why do they pay that much?

Going stale and unchallenged is the complete opposite of what I do this job for.

The money helps, but it's not why I do this.

If it is a position that doesn't help your resume after a few years I'd be looking to go elsewhere.

Depends… do you still have free time?

If so take the cash and keep yourself challenged outside or work.

If not, get out and find something that keeps you thrilled.

Depends. If it's easy enough for me to do in half the time I'm being billed for and then I can work on my own stuff, quite a while. Otherwise the absolute minimum amount of time until I can find something else that pays enough

@asgs because its the only way they get anyone competent enough :)

@Voxera indeed especially if you’re highly experienced in a niche domain. As we all know it depends and you have to make trade offs..I want to be challenged again but that means effort and there will be risks ..can I be bothered?! House is done..kids catered for…maybe wait until I’ve paid for the garden office!

@Voxera I doubt that. There are many organisations which extract too much from both competent and semi-competent for too little they pay

@asgs Sure, but in this case they offered to much or at least more than the competition as @jazzmoddler said they payed astronomical.

There are only a few reasons a company are willing to pay to much.

Either they have a hard time convincing people to work for them, boring/dangerous or illegal work, or they plan to never actually pay.

@Voxera yeah. I would go for "hard time convincing people to work for them"

By the way, the OP is a noodler not a moddler ;-)

@asgs bad spelling ;) my mistake.

Not money related. If I don't like it, I leave

    I wish.
Jobs I get don't pay well for me to think about it

Work is not meant to be pleasant, otherwise people wouldn't pay others to do it. Make the personal bit of your life exciting.
