you wanna know what the most hilarious shit is? hackernews users AKA the 6 figure startup bros that "rule the world" in terms of code and software...

trying to argue the best way to build a website 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

here's some select quotes:

"I believe the most minimalistic and productive way is to just use php"

^ this guy must not know its 2023 now

"Unless you are a web developer I don't see the point of a CSS framework, it's much easier to roll your own."

^ this guy must not know the pain and suffering that is 'rolling your own' in CSS

"Sadly, I just don't have the time to generate the content I wanted to do, so the site sits."

^ this guy just... wait, what?

but you know what? these guys clearly know WAY more than me in terms of software, it's good they get infinite salad bar and prime rib every day at silicon valley's best and brightest!

please fucking kill me i want it to end

    May I remind you that Perl got released in 5.38 and now has classes...

    Would be perfect for webpages.

    @IntrusionCM how so? I’m not familiar with pearl

    @IntrusionCM yeah, elaborate more for the ones that don't know Perl. how classes make it more suitable for the web?

    ... say if there is an Asm with classes, would you promote it for the web dev too?

    ... and yep, I know my example is not perfect, but u got the point ;)

    @IntrusionCM
    No. just... No. GTFO.

    Guys like that are extremely good and have mastered their skills. It's like a muscle memory rather than intuitiveness, they don't need shiny new stuff to make it.

    I wouldn't underestimate them just because you are slow than them.

    @magicMirror @We3D @DeepHotel

    I've put 50 cent in the bad pun jar.

    I thought the Joke was obvious...

    @IntrusionCM cgi-bin much?

    I once had to support an online "web app" for email written in perl.

    Css is only weird and hard when you're trying to do unnecessary weird shit with it.

    Wtf r u talking? I use php everyday and I fucking love it. These fucking frontenders who are crying that they cannot find a job for months. Learn fucking php, learn symfony and you’re fucking set for a life.

    @SakuraNinja +1

    But lmao on part for css framework, sure why not rewrite the wheel

    @IntrusionCM to be honest I have a soft spot for perl, part of my master's thesis used it - if for nothing else, it's IO operations obliterated the only alternative I knew (at the time) which was python.

    Perl is a very cool old school comp story, basically Larry Wall kept hitting IO limits in bash so he basically just said screw it and built his own thing:

    "I was too lazy to do it in awk because it would have been hard to get awk to jump through the hoops I was wanting it to jump through. I was too impatient to wait for awk to finish because it was so slow. And finally, I had the hubris to think I could do better."

    full disclosure however: perl sounds very painful for the web. i feel the same about python but expect to get a lot of flak for saying that (ok, django is nice SOMETIMES)

    @jassole oh i have my own method as well, i can get a static site up with 100s across the board in lighthouse in about 1 hour...

    but i don't go flaunting it as "the best way" - it's just my way

    @fullstackclown yeah.

    Perl has its valid use cases. I was just making a joke as Perl was - looong time ago - seen as a serious competitor for web applications to PHP.

    But guess I'm too nerdy with history.

    And I felt your rant.

    I always scream internally when yet another article of an dev / manager / newsletter like from medium / ... pops up like: "Don't do this, do that". "<low number> of steps to guaranteed success>". "Mistakes you should never make". "How to become <stupid role title>".

    We've come to a point where people just reproduce the garbage they've been fed and think they're genius.

    @ostream agreed aswell. CSS is sophisticated enough, to not actually need most of that overhead (and you also don't need SCSS or other stuff).

    If someone has no idea about CSS or straight up refuses to actually learn how it works, then yes, use CSS frameworks.

    @fullstackclown

    Perl was actually awesome for its intended purpose. Massive text manipulation.

    Even if I know it was a joke from the get go, let my dear perl rest in its Moore 's law grave. xD
