Windows file system is a slow piece of shit.

The update regime on most applications for Windows desktop is an unmanageable piece of shit.

Windows Store is a broken piece of shit.

The login process on a Windows computer is a tedious piece of shit.

The Windows Hello authentication is a half-baked piece of shit.

Microsoft MFA is a hostile piece of shit.

Windows Update is a destructive piece of shit.

Windows Defender is a resource-hogging piece of shit.

Windows system fonts are ugly as a piece of shit.

Windows is a god damn abomination of a OS. Fucking let me download that one game from the shitty developers that add EAC for no reason. Fucking stop hogging every resource and let steam work. Fucking stop crashing like wtf how is this considered stable. Stop fucking downloading updates. You amount to nothing than playing games made by cunts. There is no valuable information on this system and I have no problems nuking it all.

LoL.. I knew this one successful independent developer who told me:

"Why do all these companies use inefficient technologies - seriously? What I usually do is: I present myself to a company, I ask them what they would like to happen, what their problem domain is and then I present a solution. A lot of companies I've consulted for were jaw-dropped that an entire efficient and complex system was only a size of 52 KiloBytes because I just used simple languages to accomplish the task".

He has a point.. look at all these companies nowadays forcing you to Java, GlassFish, NodeJS and what not. Just the frameworks and libraries alone hog down 10 minutes of build time (sometimes 30!!), the worst companies using frameworks that require you to rebuild an entire project just to see a change in the UI.. they don't even add a watcher, and even then.. omg, not to mention averaging project file sizes of 100+ MB.

Sigh.. where is the development world going?

The most excited I've been about a piece of code would probably be the time when I made a resource hogging thing in C. The reason I was really excited was because I haven't really written C/C++ that much, at that time I wrote Java mainly. Anyway, I was able to use up nearly 90% of the CPU (i7 something), as well as 14-15/16gb of ram the school computers had. A professor there saw it and was proud of me, which really motivated me. So I compiled it and copied it to almost all the library computers (with less resources), hid it, and made a shortcut to it on the desktop disguised as Chrome.

Serious question:

Assuming we are (relative) computer pros: do we need an antivirus on Windows other than the built-in Windows Defender?

That is also assuming we're the only people using our computers.

I mean: we'd never click on ads (if we see them at all). We'd never click on links. We'd never install crapware.

Where are the risks we'd need a resource-hogging antivirus program for?
