Since I already posted images of my desktop setups at work(Mac) and home(Linux), I didn't want to repost this week. So, to keep it at least mildly interesting, here's a shot of my garage networking setup.

Ubuntu, Openbox, vim, duckduckgo, Gmail, mailgun, digitalocean, xterm, libvirtd, remmina, polipo, insomnia, ulauncher, copyq, nextcloud, rofi, ssh, bash, Firefox, Firefox-Dev, Vivaldi, steam, itch, git, proton, wine, vlc, cherry mx brown and black, android, mint mobile, Asus, amd, ubiquiti, and plex.

What's in your workflow?

Holy fucking shit I will never buy a piece from ubiquiti again! Fuck their fucking stupid controller software that's absolutely fucked up, and resets everything once it's finally working!

While i do have a homelab, I decided to use my raspi for PiHole and Ubiquiti Cloudkey. Last week I started not being able to access either WebUI, or ssh into it. So today I figured i'd look into it.

Plugged in the hdmi cable, and lo and behold... kernel panic.... Well, guess it time to spin up docker containers on my homelab instead

Anything made by asus is a fucking garbage.

My first asus laptop was eee pc 701. It had only 2 gigabytes “ssd” which was just a flash drive using usb 2.0 inside. Doing this instead of using a proper sata ssd is like using bunch of rats glued to a frisbee instead of roomba vacuum. It displayed “intel 800mhz processor” in settings but this was only the processor’s name string, in fact it was only 640mhz single core. I still managed to install totally stripped version of windows xp to it and play some old games but overall it was horrible. It also heated up as hell.

My second asus laptop was infamous z99h. It had windows vista and was slow as hell right out of the box. Also BOTH hinges broke in just like six months. It was horrible as well. The screen itself broke in a year.

I also used asus rt-series router and it required a restart every day just to deliver some wifi. Don’t you dare tell me to “uPdATe fIrMwArE”, I pay money for the product and I expect it to work right outside the box.

Asus smartphones was also garbage.

So why have asus laptop if you can have a real laptop like MacBook or thinkpad? Why have asus phone if you can have a real smartphone like iPhone or pixel? Why have asus router if you can have ubiquiti?

Asus drivers suck, and all of asus software is just bloatware.

Good morning ranters, I need pros and cons of using Aruba vs Cisco vs Ubiquiti APs compared to each other, so if anyone has experience with at least two of those any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I was asked to fix our complete network. We have multiple SSID for different floors. All of the equipment needs an external controller for management (ubiquiti unifi). Originally when it was configured, the controller was hosted on a local work pc with dynamic up, so the equipments tries to connect to different ips, and the controller does not exist anymore. All of the documentation is on a single side of a single Post-It note... Beautiful...

Dumb question
What are some good companies for consumer networking equipment. I need a unmanaged switch and might buy a router from them. There will be 7 cables run though it. I have heard praises for ubiquiti but mostly from U.S. youtubers and I live in India so service might defer. Being cheap is a plus point.
