YOU ARE A FUCKING SOFTWARE DEVELOPER WITH AT LEAST A LITTLE TRAINING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP FUCKING UP THE GIT REPOSITORY BY COMMITTING THE GODDAMN NODE_MODULES13
-
Ah yes, progress...
Why do SJWs have to infiltrate everything and project their own racist views of the world onto non-problematic terms?
Slavery has existed for as long as humanity and abolishing the terms will definitely not solve slavery and opression.
I am not against Git changing the default name but I am against them doing it in the name of "inclusivity". The technical world exists by merit and not inclusivity. Why make everything about color, race or slavery level?86 -
Back here after ages... V2.0
So this happened last year, but I feel it's worth sharing :P
I was at an internal hackathon-sorta event at the place was interning at and teamed up with a bunch of co-interns almost randomly.
While working we had some issues with the wifi so one of the guys suggested we use the mobile hotspot, I offered mine.
My hotspot ID was "cee"
The guy : Cee ? Wait are you ceee from devrant ??
Loss of anonymity, but it was pretty cool XD
What a small world :p38 -
How do you deal with choice paralysis?
Like I should do X but rather do Y
But I don't feel like doing Y now either so should do Z
But that's no fun/productive...ah wtf let's just do A,B, C after I take a nice long nap...
And then after the weekend, nothing I should've done got done...17 -

What a fucking son of a bitch day...
I’m hungover as fuck so i don’t wanna drive, so I want to pay parking for a few hours.
I didn’t find my fucking key, when I pulled up the couch to look under it, my XPS fell of it and smashes the screen. At that moment my landlord knocks on the door to take a look at the kitchen ceiling and t he kitchen is a fucking MESS! You know when you’re drunk and get a late night cooking attack? Yea, that sort of mess.
Completely fucked in my head I got the reserve key for the car, unlocked it and the bloody alarm went of because the keys battery is empty. So managed to turn it off, went back into my apartment and found the key BEHIND the motherfucking couch.. BEHIND THE COUCH, HOW WOULD IT EVEN GET THERE? Ffs...
I’ll just continue drinking now and hope tomorrow is gonna be a better day.. and order a new screen for my laptop, it’s not at all like I’m short on money this month anyway..4 -
With the help of obs virtual camera, now I can join meeting like this
It’s real time not just a video, idk if gif works correctly on devrant now, but it’s me dancing
Edit: apparently gif still doesn’t work on devrant15 -
Am I the only one excited for the RTX 3000 series not because of gaming, but because of all those sweet, fast CUDA cores? Never mind framerates, that should make training those models way faster.4

I realized how overly complicated I wrote certain object oriented code a few months ago and now I have to work around it...
I over engineered it... I became the very developer I hate5 -
> Manager: Why does service X behaves Y way? It should do Z instead.
> Me: *explains why*
> Manager: I don't understand this...
> Me: *explains it in more simple terms and shorter sentences*
> Manager: I'm still not sure I get it.
> Me: It is like this because of a third party provider and we can't change anything for the same reason. Also it is working like this for half a decade now.
> Manager: Ok, I get it. So please fix the service, it should do Z instead of Y.
> Me: *facepalm* Sorry, I can't. Ask (frontend guy), maybe he can help you.
> Frontend guy a bit later: ┌П┐(ಠ_ಠ)8 -
This should not be called wisdom teeth, should be called stupid teeth
Mother fucker is growing perpendicular.

I was messing with my Ubuntu setup, and somehow, I broke it
Since I didn't have a recent backup, I decided to switch to Manjaro
I'm in love16 -
I'm running into an issue with code coverage... I ran the analysis and it's penalizing unused getter, setters, equals, hashcode.
And the thing is I need those getters so GSON will serialize the fields...
How do you make coverage always > 80%?
Based on current analysis, I only get 60.15 -
I'm in a team of 3 in a small to medium sized company (over 50 engineers). We all work as full stack engineers.. but I think the definition of full stack here is getting super bloated. Let me give u an example. My team hold a few production apps, and we just launched a new one. The whole team (the 3 of us) are fully responsible on it from planning, design, database model, api, frontend (a react page spa), an extra client. Ok, so all this seems normal to a full stack dev.
Now, we also handle provisioning infra in aws using terraform, doing deployments, building a CI/CD pipeline using jenkins, monitoring, writing tests, building an analytics dashboard.
Recently our tech writer also left, so now we are also handling writing feature releases.
Few days ago, we also had a meeting where they sort of discussed that the maintenance of the engineering shared services, e.g. jenkins servers, (and about 2-3 other services) will now be split between teams in a shared board, previously this was handled only be team leads, but now they want to delegate it down.
And ofcourse not to mention supporting the app itself and updating bug tickets with findings.
I feel like my daily responsiblities are becoming the job responsibilities of at least 3 jobs.
Is this what full stack engineering looks like in your company? Do u handle everything from app design, building, cloud, ops, analytics etc..7 -
Nothing makes me feel as incompetent as troubleshooting a database issue for two hours only to realize I'm using the wrong mirror that has botched permissions.

Apparently my resume does not get me anywhere, but when I am able show what I am able to do in person I largely overcome the expectations my resume sets up...
Do you have any suggestions on how to write a decent resume?4
