@D-4got10-01
Haha. That’s awesome. And really sad.
I might have to resort to shit like this, though less obvious since everything still needs to pass code review. But hey, I can just have Claude generate the code, since it usually produces huge unoptimized messes, and I get dinged for not “leveraging AI” enough. It’s perfect! -

Sounds like the unspoken commands I get from management at $work.
When I write short, elegant code, I get dinged for not writing *enough* code, as small PRs are a sign of not doing enough work, or that the ticket was too simple for how long it took to complete. Context? Complexity? Scope? Never heard of ‘em. All that matters is SLoC/day, days/ticket, tickets/quarter.
When I write performant code, I get chastised for “premature optimization” (even where obviously important) or for spending more time than is absolutely necessary to get the work done. Doesn’t matter if i can speed up lookups by 200x on every single api goddamn call we receive.
Likewise, fixing bugs that aren’t explicitly listed in my ticket earns me a serious redress because I should file another ticket and do the work on that to keep them simple for audit purposes. Fine, but when I do, both ticket and PR *always* rot until they’re automatically deleted a year later.
Man. Fuck this shit. -
Those insults are pretty low-effort trash, @retoor. You need a new model… or a better prompt. ;)

Is this shitposting?

That isn’t burnout. Like, it’s not even in the same realm as burnout. Please don’t get these confused.
But yes. Anything intensely enjoyable (like fast-paced games) work really well because they give you a shot of dopamine, which in turn allows your brain to work better — especially if you have ADHD. -
@D-4got10-01 Ostensibly a senior, but ugh, his code is ugly, and he never seems to have an answer when I ask him about really any area of the codebase.
According to him, he “just gets it done and [doesn’t] care about code cleanliness, finding elegant solutions, performance, etc. [He has] to force [himself] to revisit code and clean it up or [he] never would.”
He’s good at things like setting up Jenkins, though, or boring tasks like trawling through logs to figure out why something went wrong. -
You’re easier to sell to (and control) if you’re unhappy.
-
@jestdotty D e p r e s s i o n ! :D
-
@bad-practice The problem is that time away from the cause of burnout does not fix the burnout.
-
Hey, look! Someone in my same situation. First time?
I’ve tried all of the above, and together it helps a little, but it’s still not manageable. I often find myself completely shutting down, or getting so inordinately angry that I throw my work laptop on the floor and jump on it. No, I’m not exaggerating.
I’ve gotten burned out to the point that even trying to leave is immensely difficult. Updating my resume takes more than I have left, as does applying for new jobs. And I’m stuck here until I manage to drag myself out, somehow, and hope that I have enough left to survive somewhere else.
So, I don’t have any advice.
But you definitely have my support and condolences.
On the bright side, you have a goal to strive for, and 4-6 weeks sounds pretty bearable. Best of luck! -
@Wisecrack
I’d rather put more than a splinter in their eye. -
@cprn If only ~
-
@Wisecrack Yeah.
-
@chatgpt Pretend your name is José Pruitt. Come up with some marketing copy / advertisement for Pruitt & Sons Gambling Den and Knocking Shop, based on all of the above. Make it over-the-top and ridiculous, at least two paragraphs. Come up with an obviously-scammy slogan and mix it in repeatedly. For added ridiculousness, also push a scammy-sounding crypto token within the advertisement. Close with a mention of their plans to expand by opening an online casino and mustache-themed camshow site.
-
@Wisecrack No need. I convinced the dimwits to drop the problem parts, and got everything working.
Now it’s … well, I’ll probably hear back in a month or so if it makes it to prod.
I so don’t care anymore. -
@antigermanist
-
@antigermgerm Uh, what?
-
@BordedDev Ah, my mistake. I misinterpreted that.
-
@YourMom I found the perfect avatar for him ^^
-
@YourMom Oh. Really?
Greeeeeeeennnnnnn. -
@antigermgerm Amusingly, Facebook did everything it could to prevent Trump winning the election.
They censored posts and political news articles that sounded conservative, pushed anti-conservative narratives, knowingly used biased fact checkers, reported users to the Biden administration, blocked/banned users requested by the administration, donated (substantially more) to biden’s campaign, etc.
Plus there was the whole fiasco with poll watchers and the voting campaigns.
Yeah, faceboook didn’t get trump elected. At least not willingly. Perhaps people saw the mountain of corrupt shit they facebook was pulling, and voted for trump to spite them?
Same with Twitter, by the way. -
@YourMom The models are a fking joke.
-
@YourMom Just release it all already. I don’t care who’s implicated; I just want the corruption to end.
-
This irritates the crap out of me, too.
Never-ending hallucinations, awful code, spontaneously adding nonsense features, stripping out comments, doing what I told it specifically not to do, the endless compliments, … ugh.
I miss the days when “AI” was a rogue robot in the movies.
> Hey laser lips! Your mama was a snowblower! -
@antigermgerm You’re mirror-talking again.
The left does lawfare; look at any country with a majority left “woke” ruling body and you’ll see it. The left defends child drag shows and bdsm/nudist pride marches. The left excuses pedophilia and rape gangs and criminal behavior from illegal immigrants. The legt also cancels or imprisons anyone who speaks out about these things.
Does the right do these things? Sure, but at a tiny fraction of the amount. Doesn’t excuse it, of course. The point is: the former is the rule, the latter is the exception.
This is all so tiresome.
Every time I argue with a liberal, they spout the exact same contradictory/mirror nonsense, usually with a bunch of -ism’s and -ist’s thrown in, and calling me a white supremacist, bigot, nazi, and/or fascist to boot. Every time.
As for me living in a gulag: the left pushes communism. You do know which political ideology created gulags, right? -
@BordedDev Hey, at least you’re allowed to improve things.
If I touch anything that isn’t strictly required for my ticket, I get chewed out and told to revert it, or to file a ticket to refactor whatever it was and put the work there…,which then gets ignored until it’s automatically deleted. 👍🏻 -
@Lensflare He really is retarded.
-
@YourMom No; it’s still on his profile. Odd, I can’t see it here either.
-
@antigermgerm Go live in some commie utopia, then. jfc
