Flat design can screw right off. It’s so so ugly.

I’m remembering all of the arguments I got into with bandwagon designers who praised it just because it was the newest and [not] shiniest thing, and the big corpos were pushing it so therefore it’s the best thing ever. Nothing could ever get into their heads besides marketing. Ugh.

Whatever.
There’s lots of design styles out there, and almost all of them are prettier than the godforsaken flat look.

Two more rounds of code review changes, with the last one including a request to add comments to the wrong area (the comments specifically warning that I changed a [soon-to-be-removed] feature, omg beware), and suggestions that I change two return values … which would allow all IPs, in all scenarios, forever.

So, it won’t go out for yet another week. Whatever. I’m so far beyond the ability to care.

And the idiots still are terrified something might go wrong and demand I add multiple feature flags and allow them to change every single config value on the fly in case something starts crashing prod.

I mean, I can see why. They only hire DEI candidates now, and candidates “from cheaper countries”, and quality has gone to hell because they reward incompetence. Almost all of the code I see is garbage — especially from the seniors.

I might have to resort to shit like this, though less obvious since everything still needs to pass code review. But hey, I can just have Claude generate the code, since it usually produces huge unoptimized messes, and I get dinged for not “leveraging AI” enough. It’s perfect!

That isn’t burnout. Like, it’s not even in the same realm as burnout. Please don’t get these confused.

But yes. Anything intensely enjoyable (like fast-paced games) work really well because they give you a shot of dopamine, which in turn allows your brain to work better — especially if you have ADHD.

@D-4got10-01 Ostensibly a senior, but ugh, his code is ugly, and he never seems to have an answer when I ask him about really any area of the codebase.

According to him, he “just gets it done and [doesn’t] care about code cleanliness, finding elegant solutions, performance, etc. [He has] to force [himself] to revisit code and clean it up or [he] never would.”

He’s good at things like setting up Jenkins, though, or boring tasks like trawling through logs to figure out why something went wrong.

I’ve tried all of the above, and together it helps a little, but it’s still not manageable. I often find myself completely shutting down, or getting so inordinately angry that I throw my work laptop on the floor and jump on it. No, I’m not exaggerating.

I’ve gotten burned out to the point that even trying to leave is immensely difficult. Updating my resume takes more than I have left, as does applying for new jobs. And I’m stuck here until I manage to drag myself out, somehow, and hope that I have enough left to survive somewhere else.

So, I don’t have any advice.
But you definitely have my support and condolences.

On the bright side, you have a goal to strive for, and 4-6 weeks sounds pretty bearable. Best of luck!

They censored posts and political news articles that sounded conservative, pushed anti-conservative narratives, knowingly used biased fact checkers, reported users to the Biden administration, blocked/banned users requested by the administration, donated (substantially more) to biden’s campaign, etc.

Plus there was the whole fiasco with poll watchers and the voting campaigns.

Yeah, faceboook didn’t get trump elected. At least not willingly. Perhaps people saw the mountain of corrupt shit they facebook was pulling, and voted for trump to spite them?

Relatable. Though I suppose it was relatable years ago. Over the past few, I’ve been struggling to get anything done, and not completely collapse from stress and burnout.
