I've heard good things about "Go", I see it more and more in companies' tech stack.
I've gone to its website, and OMFG I CANNOT HANDLE THAT WIDE-EYED BLUE PIECE OF GOO.
the ~ONLY reason (besides my staunch hatred of all things ewgle) I won't ever touch that horrid language is because of that ugly ass mascot.12 -
An uncle of mine, owns an NFT/Betting startup (early 30s, so no veteran and no doesn't know much coding).
Got 3-4m USD as investments.
It's an utter garbage "app" that he knows will die in an year, and he's drawing big salary and buying properties from the funding until he has the "runway" of funds remaining while app/company works in the background
What bugs me isn't that he's feasting on some random investors' petty change, but that such "ideas" get money thrown at them while ive seen 100s of more fun ideas/apps back in uni-days that died in obscurity when people graduated and retired them as projects, being talked about in 1 liner in their CVs.
This world ain't right :v3 -
Just off the meeting where the CEO told the company's closing in ~1.5months -.- and I still have a list of things to finish before they go into "freeze" mode, so the company will continue when they get more investments which might take months/year+
Now I've ~1.5months before im homeless coz im on a visa here, add to that the tech-recession, fuccccccccccccccck my life -_-5 -
I ngl miss the thrill of high-performance computing. Or more precise would be where the program's running was directly affected by what I did.
Ever since career took the applications/apps/backend route, i try to optimise but ik it's useless.
The c#/.net would anyway make its own changes, Im not allowed to write direct SQL queries and index-powered joins coz "EF will handle it". Any JS/TS is recreated by Node
Thats how work be but kinda saddening4 -
At work thres a legacy "common" DLL, which held a helper function that's incharge of creating Slugs, it takes an MD5 of the current time stamp UTC, removing non-URLable chars, and taking the first N chars that remain then
Ngl I was impressed at first at it, but then I thought, its Uniqueness isnt guaranteed
But then again I thought, the uniqueness can be tested via a call given it's indexed anyway in DB so O(1), and if non-unique, just re-call the function. Even in the worst case scenario the hits won't be that many anyway
I didnt change the code, tho at first I was inclined to given my "it isnt proven-unique" stance but am wondering, if this is a good approach
While coolish, it seems wrong in the back of my mind somehow...1 -
Is it just me or has Windows SDK gone down hill horribly in recent times
WPF -> UWP was a giant and good step
then they kinda killed off UWP, focused on XAML Islands
then came Windows 11 which breaks some UWPs built with WinUI2 coz the components are tied to the OS and not self-contained, so some dont exist in Win11 and the apps crash on runtime
Now there's WinUI3 but it assumes that the starting point is Windows 11, I try to build em on Win10 (coz win11 sucks ass), and intellisense it all crazy
These are all issues one can circumvent IF they align their setups the way MSFT desires
But the fact that these issues exist and wont work out of the box, makes me wonder how long before they start recommending Electron or some other "JS/TS-based UI framework" that'll work within ChakraCore or something. Getting back to WPF/Win32 days7 -
I'm wondering if I should buy a ~1800usd/year bare-metal server to put ALL my random websites/projects/app-backends, instead of buying VPSes here and there
But the thought "all eggs in 1 basket" is kinda scary -.-
And no, buying a static IP and hooking it to a home-server ain't happening (unfortunately), coz I move around a lot9 -
Finished && deployed a big release yesterday (like the main component, only changed in 4-5 times over the years).
You know the mental state of "ahh it's done"
I couldn't even savour it and theres needless work given to me just-because. It ain't urgent, it ain't high-priority, and IT'S A FRIDAY TODAY? :v
No wonder the smarter-than-me predecessors left this job. One can't even get a sense of satisfaction after putting that amount of thought and work.1 -
I didn't even realise .NET 7 was released YESTERDAY until a startup wizard pre-selected that instead of .NET 6 LTS
It was surprisingly a quiet launch .-.
Or I was too busy to notice -.-5 -
Idk why but it feels like lately i've such a pessimist approach to any new-tech (barring languages)
Any new framework or wrapper or CI/CD handler and without even seeing beyond description my instinct goes "fuccccccccck this, I hate it, it'll break things"
I wonder if theres a way to fix this mindset T__T or am I just getting old idkkk6 -
Do y'all use Blazor? .-. the C#-based web-UI (web assembly one)
Thinking of going in on it hard coz I hate to think of a world where backend is written in JS (🤮) just for better interoperability with JS-based UI and cheaper devs to hire (JS-fullstacks) 🤮🤮🤮5 -
How the hell does a query that usually takes ~500ms to run now magically takes 2.5h! What changed in 30mins URGHH10

Spent a month working on a website that relied on crawled data
Got the memory leaks and usage down from 700mb to ~150mb
CPU usage from ~100% to <5%
Shrink-wrapped the DB requirements based on data
Created self-supporting services and what not
When everything FINALLY worked good enough for me to look at it and go "damn, this actually worked"
the whole monitoring sys got dyed in red :v
A quick look up and my crawlers exhausted my godaddy's per-user db limits.
Kill me.
Just fuckin kill me.7 -
When you write a crawler to scavenge through a set of sites but only compare their 'uniqueness' through an on-startup hash map which doesnt reflect values already in DB and now you've duplicate values coz you didn't define uniqueness in DB either :v
I need to not be sleepy rn. -
Soooo my try on Microsoft Design Language 2 on Android
good? bad? coz i'm probably biased towards It ( .__.)4 -
Spent half an hour auditing my code coz there were Out of Memory errors
Decide to profile it, the top 3 highest heap hoggers were from StartApp :v -
First try on an Android app after spending a lot of time with Windows
Needless to say, I hate how android apps look sooo trying to recreate MDL2 with Android :3
Android peeeeooooopppppppplllle, critique it? -
Is it wrong that I hate Java?
I tried learning it before, couldn't get myself to, I thought there was something wrong with me, maybe im not open to learning new languages
Then I got introduced to F#, Loved it! Even moved portions of pet projects to it
Looked at Java again
Still hate it.
Advice?2 -
Got all excited to work UNTIL VS UPDATE FUCKED UP AND GOT STUCK.
My VS is over 40gbs of shit. If I've to repair/reinstall that shit, I'm going to lose it.1 -
There's just something about #1F1F1F with 0.8 drop shadow that even SystemControlAcrylicWindowBrush can't match :')

Idk if It's my luck or something, but as much as I love Microsoft, EVERY fucking thing of it that I use, has bugs.
I report them, they get fixed (eventually)
but goddamn.
Visual Studio enterprise taking 2mins+ to report a simple error on debug
That error happens within one of Microsoft's Nuget Packages for OneDrive Enterprise for UWP
Oh and if that wasn't bad enough, my machine is a Surface Book 2 and the cursor still stutters through it all (and on idle half the time)
Am I cursed or something?2
