I found this framed picture at my Nan's house, bless her. She's clearly not very good with technology.7

So this one day I'm at work and the manager peaks into my office and just says "can you check that platform X is building, pretty much done just a basic bug check" (this bloke had negative 1 technical experience)
I'm not sure what he means, the whole thing is built in Java and I know nothing about that...
I log in the platform on dev server, sure enough it seems to work, charts are drawn, no errors, then I try to log out; this button does nothing...
I don't bother telling the manager, I just go to the dev who's a friend of mine and tell him about it.
A week later, manager jumps in the room all excited "we're launching this product tomorrow, mind checking again?"
Sure, I log in, ... There's no log out button, it's gone... I ask the dev.
"Yeah I fixed it, it's gone now!"2 -
Coolest thing about platforms like devrant, is that it's so easy to get people to read what you have to say, and get them to notice you.
It doesn't matter if you have a nice profile picture, have a lot of friends/followers or anything like that.
The content is what matters.
Also, its not like everything here is developer related or is super nerdy, most of the stuff you see are normal things you'd expect people to post on things like Facebook when they want to be social and connect with people.
It's sad that this is not how most social media is done.7 -
You're a bit too junior we need someone with a bit more experience.
Job was listed as junior/apprentice dev.9 -
Management: "We have a Team Building session next week"
Colleague A: "Paintballing"
Colleague B: "Go-Karting"
On the day: "Welcome. Today we will be playing an IT Helpdesk Role Playing Game"

I was told during my initial interview that the book "Clean Code" is their Bible here.
And it's true. It's lying, unread in drawers and shelves all over the office.15 -
*Builds a web component for a client website*
CLIENT: I don't like it, can I have it a tiny bit over to the right more
ME: Taps the arrow key a few times making it look like I'm doing something.(Which actually does nothing)
Client: 👌Perfect

I fucked up hard for the first time yesterday at work.
Came in and expected a huge speech from the bossman.
He called me to his office:
Explained me where I went wrong and what I should do next time with a big smile on his face!24 -
My CV shows that I have experience with Java and also python scripting but I keep getting calls about Javascript positions..... Cmon HR you better than that...2

When these "LinkedIn recruiters" call me and start the conversation by saying: "We are a growing company and we can't offer you what you are asking for"
Like what!! Really? You called me at the first place!5 -
Well, it is my turn to rant about the retards on Stack Overflow who are voting down questions only because they are not capable of understanding it.13

Client: We want a mobile shooting game with multiplayer, In-app purchases, leaderboard and stuff and you should also help us in publishing it.
Me: Cool what’s you budget?
Client: max $100.
I never replied again.16 -
2 weeks ago: I received a call from a recruiter. After the interview, she said I was the right profile for the oportunity...
Last week: I went on the interview with the manager... In the end he also said that it was very good and I would receive a call in the next week to start the paperwork...
Today: I receive an e-mail saying that they decided to focus in a different path with the job, but will keep my data for future opportunities...
Really?!4 -

3 years ago, when I was 12, I told my family that I started programming and that it was my passion. My mum wasn't interested too much about it, but my dad was, and he encouraged me. He told me that he wanted me to become a great programmer.
He died about one year ago, and I stopped coding because I felt bad; every time I opened my IDE I couldn't type anything.
Idk why, some weeks ago I reinstalled devRant, and, idk why (again), I instantly felt good. Maybe because I understood a lot of people had my same passion.
Two days ago, I finally wrote new lines of code.
❤ you guys.18 -
Uploading something to a server through SCP and copying the composer libs along instead of installing them server side.
Please don't kill me 😅5
