Didn't realize how disgusting Facebook was. If a girl removes her profile picture they have determined this person hates their look. So they start spamming them with makeup ads. If a person is suicidal they start spamming them with other ads they think are relevant.

This guy brought this to my attention:

He seems to be in the trenches against, or reporting on right to repair. Not quite sure. I think he makes some interesting observations about how tech is weaponized against consumers.

    Facebook got trump elected and did the brexit. They manufactured race wars in Guyana. They're a fascist brainwashing machine and we should ban tf out of them

    I only use it to insult people

    People don’t realize that nothing is really free.
    Facebook might not cost money but its users pay with their private and sensitive data.
    So of course facebook is engaging in all kinds of scummy practices to make a profit.
    I just wish people weren’t so surprised about this.

    @BordedDev Like ransomware, you mean?

    @jestdotty this!

    @Lensflare Facebook needs to demonstrate exponential increase in revenue to maintain their valuation as a growth stock. You can't increase prices exponentially, so if they successfully adopted a paid model, _and even if their internal decisionmakers had the best intentions_ which we know they don't, it would only last so long before they had to return to abusing every bit of power they have in order to gain even more power.

    All publicly traded companies are maximally greedy, but growth companies have an additional short-term pressure to make short sighted decisions.

    @antigermgerm Amusingly, Facebook did everything it could to prevent Trump winning the election.

    They censored posts and political news articles that sounded conservative, pushed anti-conservative narratives, knowingly used biased fact checkers, reported users to the Biden administration, blocked/banned users requested by the administration, donated (substantially more) to biden’s campaign, etc.

    Plus there was the whole fiasco with poll watchers and the voting campaigns.

    Yeah, faceboook didn’t get trump elected. At least not willingly. Perhaps people saw the mountain of corrupt shit they facebook was pulling, and voted for trump to spite them?

    Same with Twitter, by the way.

    It only gets worse. A lot worse.

    @YourMom > 'It only gets worse. A lot worse.'

    I remember reading something along those lines, but holy fuck.

    That's just disgusting.

    @D-4got10-01 I just messaged our local grocer to ask them to never do this. The bigger chains might. I hope they get it.

    @YourMom I do hope I won't see this BS over here. Watched the whole video, but still can't believe that thing is legal.

    @D-4got10-01 discrimination based upon certain qualities of the person is illegal. I am uncertain if this falls into this category. Charging more because someone is older would be age discrimination to me.

    These companies think they can't fail. I think its high time we change that. Years ago a random Walmart employee made a remark on Twitter from and official Walmart account. They said something derogatory about Trump supporters. I cannot remember if this was pre 2020 or after that election. We decided to shop at a different more local grocer. We were shocked as our grocery bill dropped dramatically. We only buy specific things from Walmart now. If we get this bullshido pricing shit at our Walmarts I will stop buying anything there. They are fucking disgusting.

    I am torn about this because I think the guy that founded Walmart was a decent guy. But now all the children are running it into the ground IMO.
