I used to take my laptop outside and code in the woods when I was fourteen. That was a good four or five hours outside every day.

@Maragnus I'll try that, thanks for the suggestion

I am interested in what lead to your interest to coding.

I started to code in school when I was 18, because the course was mandatory and love it since then. But I regret not discovering my interest in programming earlier.

@Yeah69 My uncle and dad were coders for Microsoft and a small company called Accelerating. I saw what they did and I grew interest

Heard the same from my mom when I was your age. I started at age 9, now 41.

@GadgetGeek when I have a child, I hope it will grow interested in coding, too. Because this is the one thing I could teach well I guess.

@GadgetGeek: I'm a dad, I started coding when I was about 9. I get what you are going through.

Your parents just want to make sure you experience life whilst you can. You have all this time you can do with as you will right now.

Help your parents out by offering to run around outside yourself. Or help mum out with some house work. Especially if you run into a wall coding. You'll make your parents happier and more at ease, and you won't feel like you are being bugged when you do get into the zone.

Tell them that this is your passion, that your aren't gaming your life away and that it will have real world rewards when you are hired ahead of hundreds of other applicants because of your passion for the job.

@GadgetGeek I feel somehow proud of you to start in such an early age, I'm 20, started coding seriously at Uni(1year), coding for fun around (4 years) I was 15/16. Your mom may be right, my mom also complains when I spend all night coding 😉😉 Keep your head up and with hard work you'll be 1000x better specialist than me (I wish I started earlier tbh) 😕

Your mom tells you this now...just wait until you're married/in a relationship, then you'll hear the same from your spouse.

That's nice! I started coding since I'm in Grade 5 (~9 Years old) My first actual program was a simple Java program that launches a game client if there is the same credential in the database. It was a horrible mess; I don't even know the client-server model back then..

Now, I'm working on my projects for the supportive Thai startup accelerate program with awesome mentors (They're mostly developers and researchers). I'm the youngest person in the program; just turned 15 a couple of months ago.

Just show your mom what you've done, and take your time to relax outside. I prefer jogging at parks, since fresh ideas usually come to mind when you're relaxed.
