Are there some good external portable macbook pro monitors that have the vertical/portrait functionality? Also, it should be rechargeable and should not get power from my laptop when there's still a charge. (I use MBP 15" 2018 model)

We are agile at work (all use laptops, no permanent seats) and I need an extra portale monitor because there are no provided external monitors to use.

I was thinking of buying and iPad pro as a portable external monitor via catalina sidecar but it is laggy somehow and very expensive. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

So agile is "using a laptop and not having a permanent seat"? I think I laughed and cried at the same time. It's what we humans do, though: turn good ideas into the ludicrous.

    Wtf?
Since when did "agile" mean hot desks?
Are you all sub contractors or something - I take this strangely since I give my contractors a desk, a laptop and dual monitors.

As for you're answer, I can't say I've seen a portable battery powered monitor before outside of an iPad/tablet.

Buys macbook pro but not external monitors. Brilliant company.

Agile and not permanent seats... I wonder how do you guys "running" sprints.

    Edit: wtf is rechargable monitors

@hack the macbook pro is personal, the company issued laptop is a Dell laptop.

    Rechargeable portable monitors

@C0D4 we are not subcontractors. No, they don't provide all external monitors here. Only some so I wanted to bring a portable external monitor

@monkeyboy that's what we do here. Free seating although some teams have a designated area but not permanent.

Is there any proven benefit of hot seat/hot desk bullshit?

Agile has nothing to do with switching seats. What you have is whats called an activity based office and while some roles benefit from it (mostly those with lots of meetings) its also primarily a cost saving solution for companies to get by with smaller desks and often less actual workplaces than employees.

If for example you have lots of consultants that work at customer location or sales people that also rarely spend time in office, this can save quite a lot.

But I have yet to hear from a developer that it improved their effectiveness, the best I have heard was that it did not severely hamper it.

@hack I believe it’s something from future. Probably powered using solar panel behind the monitor.

You need to switch seats with people near windows to recharge them when power drops by.

@C0D4 that price... Just for a fucking monitor.

@hack well, OP wants something most people wouldnt have a use for.

but, whats a price tag... he already owns a macbook.

Do you need a battery powered one? A portable one should be enough if they are not skimping on electricity too.

I recall LinusTechTips reviewing some models not too long ago.

@C0D4 you could get a usable laptop with a good screen for that price lol

So, carrying two things is more comfortable than carrying one thing?

    Has a mac.
Says IPad as a external monitor is expensive.

    Why apple then?

@C0D4 thanks mate. Well that's too expensive. Sigh I might just get an iPad pro and use the sidecar thing even if there's some lag/delays :( Almost $2k

@dontbeevil I need USB type C portable monitor.

@iggyTheCat well if it provides more real estate and can boost my productivity then why not? :)

@Gregozor2121 well I don't have infinite resources you know :)

@dontbeevil thanks I have seen that and read somewhere that it uses it's own battery and turns of when out of charge even if it is connected to your laptop. Hhmmm will checkout some more reviews though. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜€

@dontbeevil there are lots of reviews here (Asus MB16AC):
    amazon.com/product-reviews/B071S84ZW7

I think I'm ok with the no battery included now. And good thing you can have 2 MB16AC plugged in to my MBP 15 2018 and will still work. Cool!

Cons: Doesn't have the ability to auto rotate on OSX
