Tl;dr: I spent more than 2 hours and $429 on a book thats as thin as a pancake.

I needed to go to my campus to pick up my textbook from the school store for my Software Management class. The bookstore is in the building next to the construction site. I had to park on the opposite side of the campus and walk the 2.3 miles to the store, stand in line for 20 minutes to have them tell me that i need a printed out class schedule. I had to walk all the way back to the building next to where i parked to print out my schedule in the library. I then walked all the way back to the bookstore, and the line has maybe tripled in size. I stand in line nearly an hour to have them tell me that they no longer had rentals available for my book, even though i reserved one (they thought it was cool to just rent it to someone else apparently). So instead of paying $45 on a rental, i payed $429 for a brand new textbook that looks like a magazine. Its stupid thin, i could probably read and study it all in less than a week. Thinking of this, i ask the cashier about return policy. She says i can't return it, but i can sell it back to them within 10 days of purchase for about half the price i paid for it. I walk the 2.3 miles back to my car, decide to sell the book on Amazon or something after the semester, and once again leave my campus angry. I cannot wait to be done with this place.

I just gave a simple API which fetches recent searches by pinging an index on elasticsearch to the UI developer.
She had just one job. And ended up calling the server every time it loads on every screen thereby reaching max limit of calls per second and giving 429.

QA are not even required to break your code. UI developers are more than enough :)

I wrote an algorithm that incorporates a 3rd party API. and the algorithm is so fast and optimized that I started to get 429 status codes from the third party API, asking me to slow down my requests, which I didn't think was an issue when I tested on local env.

Now I'm on purpose slowing down my code, to prevent that from happening.

Talk about suffering from success.

So, today a developer from a web app consuming our services requested to fix a 429 http error code (too many requests) they are seeing. The request is on an email with our managers cc'ed

A new development rule I've started to implement:

All backend APIs will be written with the assumption that it's gonna get distributed as an API for 3rd parties to be integrated in their systems - meaning that every API I write will have proper response status codes for appropriate scenarios (like 400, 429, 500 status codes).

No more `res.json({status: false, message: 'message'})` with 200 status code across the board.

Thats top notch design.
All actions happening on the page go to one endpoint. Removing old trusted computers, changing the password, changing 2FA, you name it.

Now if you want to remove all old trusted devices, you cannot remove all at once, there is no button for it. So you click one after the other. And then it stops working. Ok, then do the normal password rotation. Hmm, button has a loading spinner and then nothing happens.

Looking into the browser console:
- All requests go to /myaccount/security/graphql
- All requests get a 429 Too many requests
- Even if you just click a panel, it tracks the action to the graphql endpoint. Or at least tries to because even that gets shot down with a 429
