I was activating virtualenv in powershell when my younger brother came in.
Me: *all nervous* please don't think I'm hacking or trying to set off a bomb. (He always thinks I'm hacking and tells on me.)
Brother: *silent*
Me: *even more nervous* I don't want my laptop to get taken away. Don't tell on me and say I'm hacking, because I'm not.
Brother: Oh, I know you're not hacking this time.
Me: You do? *relieved.*
Brother: Yeah, because this time it's a blue background, not a black one.
Me: Oh, haha. So you're only scared of things such as these? *opens CMD and Git Bash* you know, just because it's dark themed, doesn't mean it's malicious. Besides it—
Brother: oooOooOh! You're hacking again! I'm telling on you!
*Note to self: Never use dark theme in front of the ignorant again.)43 -
When you get blinded by a white browser page after staring only at your dark themed IDE and black command line for the past 4 hours2

I'M TIRED OF HEARING THAT DEVELOPMENT IS NOT A CREATIVE FIELD! Creativity is emerging new ideas from non-existent ones. It is not confined to pretty designs or well-written copy. Sure, devs are logical problem solvers – but not a single dev will solve those problems the same way. Code is like the paint on our dark-themed canvases and you can see yourself out if you think devs are just robotic coding machines8

I have just started out on Linux (Ubuntu because I don't know anything (please don't judge me (you're not judging me right?))) and I don't know anything aside from Linux relies on Terminal a lot. The tools are already installed (VSCode, git, etc.) and everything dark-themed. Is there anything I should have in your opinion, and where should I start?

I've just lost my grandfather last Friday from liver and gallbladder failure. Him being a composer and a musician impacted me a lot as a pianist try-hard. I regret I prioritized my studying for college over him and only visited him twice. But he saw my performance from my parents (they recorded it) and he complimented it, so it's more than enough for me. Rest in peace gramp, and thank you.5 -
That moment when you spent an entire day making an awesome webpage (dark themed) and your pm tells you to change almost everything in it because he wants a light-themed website.
Fuck Everyone
(BTW now half the website is dark-themed and other half light-themed because pm doesn't know what he wants)5 -
I have gotten so used to code with dark themes (I even made Devrant from standard light to dark theme) that everytime i see someone with a light themed text editor, my eyes cry a bit.6

Okay, windows, it's cool that you're getting a dark themed explorer and overall UWP-Fluent Design improvements but...
What's up with this context menu, which has a button saying "close [context] menu"?
(this is made up of screenshots, not a recording - the actual animation is much smoother)15 -

Today, my true developer saga begins. First job as an embedded developer and I am prepared with my flaming dark themed rubber duck debugger. What could go wrong? :D3 -
Dark-themed IDE + back-lit keyboard + coffee + headphones = best coding environment ^_^
Though there's always that one asshole who decides to talk to you Only when you're in the zone.7 -
So happy right now!
I just finished a project which I started today.
It is a java bytecode class/method/field renamer. You can rename those things inside a jar file. It has a nice dark-themed GUI and it works great :)
I'm just happy because I couldn't find something like this on the Internet and wanted it since I started learning programming. Also I am happy because I did it in 1 Day and learned so much about the Java Bytecode!
It's using ObjectWeb ASM btw.7 -
I hadn't used devRant in a while since I'm preparing for an upcoming job interview and was trying to stay away from my phone.
However, I cracked today and I spent the whole afternoon staring at this beautiful dark-themed interface and reading rants.5 -
Who at Microsoft thought that this is a good idea?
I wish I did not update, last update I did was a year ago and I was happy with it, now Windows feels like chaos ... Half the things are Dark themed and the other half is not. Lets see what the future holds
Also that Windows.old thing takes up 20GB that even if installation fails, it never succeeds in rolling back ... At least I was never able to rollback ...15 -
It's been so long without an update on my little encryption project so...
We accomplished the following:
- big fixes and bug fixes
- drag and drop in files and folders
- screwed over many times
... And finally ...
- THEME SUPPORT!! WUHUUU
(Look attached screenshot)
Currently I just implemented two themes but a theme explorer will follow.
I'll create 3 themes for this project, normal, dark and Alice themed.
Stay tuned ✌️5 -
When you get an email from a client that you can't read because then text is blue, and that doesn't work with your dark themed email client2

Was explaining the usage of   and white space in HTML to a confused nondev colleague. He later asked how come there is white space, when this program you use to code is a black..while pointing to my dark themed text editor.

Dark theme tip for windows users
Use magnifying glass set it to 100% then options invert colors. You'll get everything dark themed now but no missing stuff like you would get from a high contrast dark theme.5 -
Things which make me feel badass tester (and dev too) are: dark themed IDEs, using command prompt/ terminal (still as exciting), and when my code actually works lol4

The main difference between chrome and Safari is an ideological one. When I'm about to watch a movie and have my all dark themed screen at full brightness, chrome can blink a white screen right in my eyes as it was loading its stupid start page.
Safari doesn't do that. That's the difference that matters to me.2 -
Random rant: the real ugly thing about dark themed apps is that you can't for the life of you find the taskbar so that you may drag the fucking thing around. (not a light theme guy btw)2

Recently I've been working on neovim so hard, and now I'm trying to <Esc> every time I type something on a webpage. But only on dark-themed pages. 🤔😂

holy crap! i really am used to light themed ide. for some reason i played around last time and left it dark. now i just used it for twenty minutes. then i found the color scheme kind of strange and wanted to switch back to good old light theme.
seems i have to get used to the new colour scheme. ouch.
