The Windows 11 keynote was such a load of bullshit. All the emo yadda yadda. You know, when I work on Windows, what I feel is irritation, anger, and despise for the amateur shitshow that Microsoft delivers.
In particular, but not limited to the fucking update reboots where Windows sits there uselessly and shells fucking prawns in its own ass!
Oh we now have semi-transparent shit. That's progress! It's so great! Only that it's not because already Windows Vista had Aero Glass, and Windows 8 removed it.
But we we have fucking rounded corners now! Crazy shit, some intern at Microsoft discovered border-radius, or did they dig out some fucking Windows XP copy? That also had rounded corners way before Apple even invented them!
To top it off, Microsoft even failed to deliver the livestream seamlessly and recommended watching it at Twitter. Yeah, that's the fucking "Windows experience" as we know it, you clowns!
My favourite BS quote from Nadella himself: "the web itself was born and grew up on Windows." That guy is so full of shit that an unmaintained latrine in rural India would be envious!8 -
Microsoft, you can't sneak this past me! I notice you're putting rounded corners in specific parts of your OS, and I don't like it. It's inconsistent with your design and your slow roll-out of the rounding makes things round in some areas (such as the context menu in the calculator app) and square in other areas! (such as the context menu anywhere else)
All I'm saying is either do it everywhere, or do it nowhere.
(I realize the terminal is not an official application YET, but it's a good example)8 -
I loved what Flash used to be. Most people thought it was proprietary stuff. The program was. It's language was not. And damn, did we have fun together! We rendered vector graphics from code and pushed perlin noise into bitmaps while the HTML guys were still struggling with rounded corners. Oh, those bezier curves we dreamed up out of thin lines of code!
Other people just couldn't see how beautiful you were. They hated you because you were popular, and ads were beginning to dominate the landscape. And lots of dildo's made ads by abusing your capabilities, straining you with their ugly code that didn't remove event listeners properly. I always did, because I loved you.
They made fun of you because you had to be compiled. Look what those cavemen are doing now, dear ActionScript 3.0. They are compiling Javascript and pushing it to production. They are all fools my dear, unworthy to read even a single line of your gracious typed syntax. We were faster then Java. More animated and fluid then CSS. We were even responsive if we needed to.
But... I have to move on. I don't know if you're still watching over me but I can't deny I've been trying to find some happiness. I think you would have wanted me to. C# is a sweet girl and I'm thankful for her, but I won't ever forget those short few years we had together. They were the absolute best.
Rest well my dear princess.8 -
Exhibit B of Google's inability to code:
One of the most starred Android repositories on Github adds rounded corners to ImageView. That's it.
Sometimes you really wonder what Google's engineers are doing :P3 -
I've always liked Windows more than MacOS, but known deep in my heart that MacOS is more polished. More shiny, attractive, makes more sense, is easier to use, etc. Windows was never that far behind (however, they were probably furthest behind in Vista and 8), but they were always behind.
Looking at the new MacOS, I genuinely think that Microsoft offers a better experience now. While Android and iOS are still firmly battling, Windows just beats the living shit out of MacOS.
Windows is an OS built for either touch or mouse. If you use touch controls, the OS automatically adapts to it (larger context menus if you press and hold, smaller ones if you right click). You can enter tablet mode. The start menu has a good interface for both touch and mouse.
MacOS is an operating system designed for touch input on a device which famously has none.
It has fallen victim to a very common design error: too much fucking spacing. Every little thing, even items in a list, has a ton of pixels between them, and they all have rounded corners. Again, this is common for touch displays where you don't wanna fat finger stuff. But they don't offer a touch screen Mac and have expressed no interest in ever doing so.
Now they're going ARM on custom silicon. This is a good move in the long run, but it's going to be a rough couple of years. Apple admits two. You can probably reliably double that.
Is Apple killing the Mac on purpose or by accident?5 -
User: Apps crash, UX is shit, Customisation is shit, services take huge memory, BSOD....
Microsoft: We hear you. Here's some new icons. Next year you'll get rounded corners on windows.
Yaayyyy 😔7 -
I never understood why Microsoft hates rounded corners so much?
It's like they swore an oath to never use rounded corners in their apps or websites.24 -
This has been said before, but i'm gonna be honest with you here, straight from the bottom of my heart
Fuck the new chrome design is fucking repulsive, when did material == rounded corners.
This design reminds me more of what facebook is trying to do with their grotesque messenger.5 -
Well I was in school for web development I chose to take the elective course intro to web as an easy online class. And almost failed an assignment for using css3 for rounded corners and shadowing all because it did not pass validation because it was not standard yet. Shows how little that teacher knew about the industry...... Face palm

If you move the mouse-cursor to the top-right-most corner on Windows 10, a Win32 program and a UWP app when maximised, highlight and respond to the red-close button
An application made with Windows App SDK, does not. //tested with SDKv1.4, not overriding windows-made title bar
Probably coz of their window-margins with Msft's new found love of rounded corners.
Never thought Windows would be this blatantly horrible. Everything past 2020s Windows 10 has gone downhill. I wonder which top-guy left that lead to this downfall.7 -
Does anyone know how i can get rid of the rounded window corners?
using elementaryOS with no theme, though i plan to either add Flatabulous or Arc as a theme.
I want sharp corners, not this baby-proofed round mess i currently have going on 😂1 -
I always rant about Ubuntu but today I'm gonna be fair, I had a 30 seconds look at the new Windows 11 user interface: is a so fucked up guresome mess, with its center-aligned taskbar, rounded windows corners and recent docs section taking up half of the center-aligned start menu, that it makes me want to puke before the entrance of the closest Microsoft's company building. And you now what? Such building is actually not farther than 20 minutes from where I live, so I probably will.13

Hi everyone, I'm kinda new here. What are your thoughts on the new Windows 11 and specifically the whole fluent design and rounded corners?4
