Voyager 1 passes 17 billion miles today. The farthest man made object from the earth today and it's transmitters are still working after 43 years.
I can't even get the stuff I built last week to work right.7 -
!rant but story
https://devin.xyz (v.0.0.1)
My quick and semi-ugly solution to save amazing rants and comments forever and more organized.
What it is and it will be:
- archive of rants and comments from devrant that I found very good
- the original ranters will be informed when their rants are archived
- the original ranters and/or the management team of devRant has the right to request the archive content's total deletion
- every single thing on there will be accessible by anyone anytime anywhere (as log as server is healthy)
- open-source
What it may become:
- anyone can register and save their archive
- dev content archive from other sources
- dev articles blog
What it will never have/be:
- any form of payment
- ads
- tracking (I don't even wanna know how many users are viewing)
- non dev related content
- devRant
I'm willing to create user accounts for anyone interested in very near future. So please buzz me here if you want one.
So far it's a website of Laravel + Voyager + bulma with very minimal custom codes (I had to write below 100 lines of code in total). It is on Vultr server.
I'm gonna maintain and update as much as I can on my spare time. Hence I don't consider this as a collab. However, the code is on gitlab private repo. I'll make the repo public soon as well. Any contribution is gladly welcome. 😄10 -
I just want to mention some old software from 50 years ago that is running on Voyager 1 and 2 and needs to be maintained and cut due to nuclear power source depletion.

Not a rant. Just how far technologie came.
on the right:
1 Episode of a new show, 4k hdr etc : 9GB
On the left:
Whole season (26 episodes) of startrek Voyager (DVD quality).
I find this pretty much fun.18 -
So for Father's Day I bought my dad premium coffee (Single Origin, Now Bottle Voyager pack). Very expensive even compared to Starbucks...
We brewed a few but they taste like crap. I thought he was doing it wrong. So today I dropped by the store and brought myself a cup that they made to see how the pros do it...
Well this is what I got for $5... And it also tastes like crap...
So now my question is do we actually like drinking coffee or non-carbonated sugar water that we call coffee?42 -
Image Voyager with it's golden record is found _now_.
How disappointed would an alien race intelligent enough to decode and understand the pictures on there (which - imo - show us as civilized as possible) be, coming here and find us just waiting do die because of shit we did by ourselves.
Hard to imagine an extraterrestrial race is in any way like us, but it's even harder to imagine them coming to us, maybe even hoping for peace, because they live through the same shit as we do - just to find more shit.
They didn't include war, poverty, disease, crime, ideology, and most important: religion in the pictures on the record. stuff that essentially made us who we are today but at the same time show us at our worst.
we know what's shit about our behaviour and we don't want to show it to aliens but we don't change them at all.

I was working in a voyager's project in my office, my CTO sent me an sql script to import a basic DB and when I run the project and I try to access to localhost/admin, ¡boom!, amazing exception.
I forgot type composer install in the project XD I felt very noob in that moment
