"Reviewer 2 is always a bitch"
Aaaaaaaand I'm looking at gloomy reviews which means my paper is gonna get rejected soon. Why oh god why!
(Actually, I know why, and maybe this is for the best, since I pulled the method out of my arse because I found out environments were unstable and had to nag about it to not fully lose a year's worth of investigative work. But also, this is my first conference rejection. Literally. 😐)
... There's a slight chance one of the reviews might save me tho, so keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, pleaeaeaeaeaeaeaaeaease! 🙏🏻8 -
I really need to learn to think through how many stitches I’m putting into the first row of a project.
- Takes over an hour to do one row
- Already used more than 2k yards on it and it’s not even short blanket length yet (though width is ridiculous)9 -
Here's an incomplete list of things my mother did to me:
- She insulted my body when I was 13. She told me it was weak and feminine. I identified as a boy back then, and I was going to the gym.
- She told me my face was ugly because of acne.
- She shamed me for having better vision than her.
- She shamed me for having longer eyelashes than her, the told me I looked like a girl.
- She always wanted me to learn everything and have all A's. When I got B+, she destroyed me mentally every time. When I got C, this was a catastrophe. Yet, if I told her she was wrong about mundane things like how many volts there are in an outlet, it was me who's in the wrong, despite me having an A for physics. There was no contradiction here in her eyes.
- She forced me to carry heavy things as a punishment. At the age of fifteen, I had an inguinal hernia. The surgery was needed. After that, doctors told me (and her) that I should go easy on carrying heavy things for a month. She didn't listen and forced me to carry heavy things again after two weeks. I had another inguinal hernia. Now, I needed a much more invasive laparoscopy to implant nylon webbing. Because of all of that, now I have messy, ugly scars all over my belly. Guess what happened next? She shamed me for having them!
- Since I was 18, even though I was studying in the uni, she demanded money for rent, for me living in my parents' house I grew up in. The sum she demanded was 27x my scholarship money.
- When I broke my toe, it was obvious that I broke it. It was swollen, twice the size of a normal toe, for two weeks straight. She told me to quit whining and go to PE/Taekwon-do lessons she forced me to attend.6 -
Fun fact: banks won't let me take loans. Any kind of loans.
Why? It's not because I have a history of missing payment schedules. It's because I NEVER had a credit card or loans — I paid for everything with cold hard cash my whole life. But it all changed when I fried a charging controller on my laptop, so I needed a new one fast. I was in between jobs then. So, I took a loan for a new laptop, one thousand dollars, a large sum for me back then. I found a job and covered that loan ahead of schedule, in three months instead of one year. In total, my bank made a mere $5 off of me.
Banks now know I won't bring any kind of interest in whatsoever, as I never miss my payments. So, they decided to quit on me completely.
That's a proof that banks don't want you to pay on time — they want you to delay your payments and let your interest build up, so you're forced to take new loans to cover old ones. They want you to pay interest forever, having barely enough money to cover interest, but not the loan itself.22 -
DEI QA: “For step 2 should the checkbox be checked? Or uncheck ?”
… Step 2 of my testing steps reads: “Check it [the checkbox], save it, reload it. The box should still be checked. Repeat to uncheck it, just to be pedantic, then leave it off so we can test the existing behavior.”
🤦🏻♀️
DEI QA: “The payment_method_identifier will be in api callback logs if `Return payment method identifier in auth/confirmation callbacks` is checked?”
🤦🏻♀️
Me: it does what it says on the tin.
DEI QA: “BTW its a `tin`.”
DEI QA: “In Canada its `Taxpayer Identification Number`”
🤦🏻♀️ -
I fucking hate it when apps are not named the same way as the fucking product or company. "Connect" app. Connect fucking what? "Mobile bank". Let me try to search for it using the name of my bank. Haha, oops, I forgot I should rather go fuck myself. MusicCast. You're fucking Yamaha and if I can't find you at Y then gods help me.4

got a new laptop today. corporate, so hey, there's your Win11.
i still recall how i could not believe what crap they released when i saw Vista for the first time. the tranisiton from 7 to 10 wasn't pleasant but ok.
but the switch from 10 to 11? WTF. half a setting is gone and i can only be lucky it's 2 years past release so some stuff that was missing is re-implemented back. some stuff can be fixed with 3rd party tools but hey - it can also be loaded with malware so no-go in work environment.
can't wait for what pile of horseshit is the 12 going to be with their "Ai bUilT iNTo OpERaTIng sYSem"11 -
Two largest rollercoasters in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, are called "The Grand Lukii's Meat Factory Number One" and "The Grand Lukii's Meat Factory Number Two". I rode the second one. It was terrifying.
Yes, they named it "the meat factory", because the grand Lukii's meat factory is an actual company that sponsoring them. Can't find any second meaning, none at all.1 -
My stepdad died 6 years ago, I've lived with him and my mother as early as I could remember. Couple months after he died I was told he went to jail at a very young age and came out an adult 30+, which means he spent a very long time behind bars. I was not told what he was in for but I did some digging online through some very old court records and found out. Everything started to add up, I knew there was some part of him I didnt know about but for some reason I never thought much about it and didnt bother to question, he was extremely good at chess, very intelligent and liked to read, jacked asf, very resourceful and respectful, he always knew how to handle conflicts, had some scars and very good at basketball. Even tho he didnt get a formal tertiary education he knew a lot about various subject areas, especially law and had a lot of skills, welding, mechanic, plumbing, electrical you name it.
I cant believe I didnt see the signs, maybe I was just too young and naive.
But regardless of that, he was an awesome stepdad who I still admire up to this day, lol he introduced me to Marvel and DC. P.S Marvel > DC5 -
Once, I overheard a conversation between my former PM and a client during a phone call.
Client: I will send the final draft of the project by Thursday.
PM: That's great to hear!
Client: When can I expect the updates to review the changes after the draft is sent? I need to present it at a meeting this weekend.
PM: It should be ready by Friday without fail!
Client: Excellent! Thank you. I will be expecting it.
PM: Sure, goodbye.
(After the call, PM joined the team.)
PM: So, team, the client for Project-A will be sending us a new draft for review and updates. They are putting a lot of pressure on us and need it to be ready by Friday at the latest. We need to treat this with a sense of urgency.
(After hearing this, we felt compelled to respond.)
Me: There's no way they would expect us to deliver an unseen draft within a day. Both the backend and Figma team members were forced to work last weekend, on Saturday, because you mentioned that Project B was behind schedule and the client needed an update by Monday. We simply can't continue working like this.
Backend guy 2: I also worked last Sunday on Project B.
Me: We overheard you telling the client that they should expect an update by Friday. It seems like you're the one directly putting the team under pressure, even though we still have three ongoing projects with tight deadlines.
(The office fell into an uncomfortable silence.)
(PM left the office without saying a word.)
Later on, I heard that he contacted the client to reschedule the expected time of arrival (ETA) after receiving the draft.5 -
Ticket: This API param doesn’t work.
Ticket Size: 1 story point / extra small baby fries
Found the issue almost immediately: some fucked up date math. Or at least backwards as hell. I don’t know. I don’t care.
There’s no spec for it, and writing it is a bitch. None of the API test helpers are designed for end-to-end tests. Why? I don’t care. They’re stupid. They all just break. And the API does weird shit like fucking redirects to an HTML page. Which is… i don’t know. They mix up API and embedded sessions a bunch, so who knows if this is right or broken as fuck.
I can’t deal with this shit anymore.
It’s just mountains of fucking garbage. Every time I dig into anything, anywhere in this codebase, or, let’s be honest: the entire goddamn company, it’s just more fucking garbage. The code is garbage. The specs are garbage. The people are garbage. The woke crap they love so much is garbage. The industry is garbage. The macs we’re required to use are garbage. The strongly-encouraged editor is garbage. The new hires are garbage. The legendary devs are garbage. The VPN is garbage — still haven’t gotten it to fucking work outside of fucking Safari, which is also garbage. The meetings are garbage. The “culture” is garbage. The “raises” are garbage. The thirty-step dance ceremony for each ticket is garbage. The literal fucking garbage at the office is the best part of the entire goddamn landfill.
And yeah, over half of the code that’s been giving me problems on this ticket was written by the same dev: The legendary golden garbage boy himself.
Just.
Fucking hell.
I’m going back to looking for work again. I can’t do this anymore.10 -
At 4am there was some random youtuber in my head that reads reddit posts and he presents me one but it's blurry and he says hi there how you there are stupid but how stupid you are, humming hammers,
MOMMY THATS SWEET MIAMI MOMMY THATS SWEET MIAMI he's insecure go back then hayeens HIGH WINS HIGH WINS HIGH WINS HIGH WINS and he never stops
It literally feels like a broken neural network output, meaningless. But it's in my head, I never asked for this but it's there generating itself1 -
The most unrealistic deadline? Okay, here it goes. For context, this is one of my earliest jobs, and I’m actively using React.
— Kiki, I have a stunning idea! Let’s build a Figma clone!
— Okaaaay, 🧐
— You have two days.
— A what?
— I’ve just stumbled upon an amazing new technology. You maybe don’t know it yet. It’s called React.js, and you totally can build a full Figma clone in two days using it!
— …
— It’s a revolution, and you’re so ignorant for not following it. Are you even a real engineer?
— …
Two days later:
— Forget about Figma! Let’s build an online DAW for musicians!
That guy was nuts. I left when we had an executive meeting, I was explaining tech things, and he suddenly popped out a fucking tambourine and started striking it. One year later, he lost everything and went to get a junior C++ position at an outsourcing company.4 -
I had to demonstrate file uploading, clicked “Select file…”, it opened a file dialog, and there were photos of me posing with cum on my face.8

Not a b2plane post.
I'm noticing a strange behavior of my body where the moment I go in the "coding zen" feeling the first time after waking up, my body wants to poop.
Previously I attributed it to me drinking tea before starting work.
But then today, I didn't drink tea. I woke up and started working right after, and still when I hit the "coding zen" feeling, my body wanted to poop.
Wtf..6 -
Just sent my devRant profile link to my employer. They loved some of my memes, but generally they didn't care much.
Dreaded this moment for 1.5 years now, and now decided to come clean.
Did I know that an irrational fear about being fired over some memes was indeed irrational? Yes. Do I feel better now? Yes, hell yes!
To be completely honest with you, it was today's @scor interactions that finally empowered me to do it. A dumb fear of getting doxxed was with me way before @scor started attacking me, but now I ended it: my partners (I'm polyamorous) know about devRant, my friends, my ex-colleagues, and now my current employer knows it too. Everyone from my public life knows who I really am and what I really think.
Not as a step in a dumb “beef” that doesn't exist, not as a slide, not as an insult, I'm going to say THANK YOU, @scor, for finally pushing me over that tiny obstacle. One and a half year of annoying obscure itching is finally over.28 -
Let me try the two sentence horror thing. Here it goes:
It's getting late, and my son is yet to return from his private programming class. I looked through his laptop, and his teacher is some guy named Carl H.8 -
Damn DHL reminded me again of the level of service Australia Post is lacking... $50 delivery from P.R.C, promised to deliver in 5 days and delivers in 3 days. Australia Post would charge $45 to send the same parcel from Sydney to Melbourne, with no guaranteed delivery time-frame due to, hold your breath, COVID-19.2

Sick af
Eyes burning
App crashes right before demo
I did a 16 hour while sick exactly to make sure this wouldn't happen.
I'm at my absolute limit for anyone expecting anything from me. Also my phone is broken4 -
UGHH AMANDA, I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PILATES SESSION OR WHETHER YOU HAD MORNING COFFEE.
CAN WE SKIP THE SMALL TALK AND FUCKING GET THIS MEETING STARTED ALREADY?
ok fine, I won't be getting much done today (as usual), but that doesn't mean I HAVE TIME TO DEDICATE LISTENING TO YOUR BULLSHIT.12 -
Lets take onlyfans system for example. They have fans and creators. How is database models supposed to be structured? Whats the correct way.
1) a User model that contains all users of all roles, but differentiates them by Role ENUM
2) a separate Fan and Creator model, each having their own unique attributes, while each extending an abstract base User model class that has all the common attributes that both models should use
The 1st approach is simple but gets very large and difficult to maintain and view all the attributes cluttered in 1 class. Not to mention how some attributes will never be used for a user who registered as a Fan.
2nd approach is more modular and easier to understand and maintain by knowing exactly what attributes to put for each model. However problems occurs when you try to join tables and stuff start to become overengineered15 -
A few years i had wrote a little script as a proof of concept for remote injection via torrent files.
Yesterday, some doofus bruteforced into my seedbox and tried to install a miner using the same script🤦🤦🤦
Did some digging, found my way back to him and wiped the drives on his system as a gesture of thank you. Anyways, I hope he didn't have anything important on his 16TB volume, cause good luck recovering that11 -
Whatever you do, just keep going.
If you don't have mental capacity to do all tasks today, do one or two. If you want to do that side project you wanted, but lost motivation in the moment, do at least something, like a sign up form. Just keep going. Put some work in, make this day's net impact positive. And it's not all about work! Wanted to play that game you bought on a steam sale but never opened? Play the first level today. Wanted to learn how to make music? Download Ableton or Fruity Loops, watch a tutorial video on YouTube, replicate the steps. Just keep going.
Wandering directionless and letting yourself go is the sure path to misery. Remember — every figment of human behavior has a reason. It is important to identify reasons behind seemingly random behavior patterns and comprehend them in a non-judgmental way. Then, starve what holds you back, and feet what keeps you going.
I have bipolar type I + autism. Using this approach and remembering that everything has a reason helped me debug my low productivity. And no, I don't mean my job, I mean my real goals I want to pursue even if I had a billion in the bank today and never had to work a single day in my life.
Aaand, the reason was?… fear. I discovered I had PTSD all along that manifested when I was misdiagnosed and prescribed strong neuroleptics. In a way, it's a chemical lobotomy, just less invasive and more reversible. My intelligence came back, but it came back together with PTSD.
Now, instead of chasing mythical productivity, I know the reason behind the lack of it — PTSD. It is hard to fight what isn't defined, but it is real to win a fight with a thing with a name and a face.
Just keep going. That's my message to you.15
