This is more common than I thought.
I thought for a second there that you're my colleague.
He got fired by the client, his last day was last week. Thankfully his company managed to find something else for him to work on -
You're among the very few people I know that have this view.
All of my real life friends in EU don't have this concern. They're applying for mortgage, having babies... I don't understand why considering all the fuck up things lately.
Have they not follow the news?
I am the the anxious one, yet I probably be among ones with high chance of survival as I can just fly back to Asia once things get worse 😅 -
My current project.
Estimates:
- Stage 1 : 3 days
- Stage 2 : 2-3 weeks
Reality:
Stage 1 : 2 weeks
Stage 2 : 3 days
I am not even embarrassed at this point, I am just happy we managed to pass Stage 1 development -
Early retirement.
Then spend the day gardening and taking care of cats.
Only take part time and full remote work -
@retoor
The insurance cost is a percentage of our salary (14% where 7% is taken from our paycheck) with a maximum of EUR 470(I am already in the maximum)
Haha Germany is only cheap if you have below average income, but for high paid professionals, we're getting ripped off 🥲
Especially someone with no kids like me, they just increased one of the social insurances this year, my January take home pay is less than last year. 😢 -
@retoor
Yup, half is paid by employer and the other is taken from our salary.
I wouldn't mind if we get excellent healthcare services, but dear God we have to wait 3 months to see a specialist, and the doctor only have 7 minutes per patient (regulated by insurance) -
@retoor
EUR 150 in NL? That's cheap!
Here in Germany, I pay EUR 800 with no guarantee of getting service 🥲 -
I wish I can do that.
Many companies here in Germany allow you to work abroad a few weeks a year but only within EU.
I want to work remotely outside of EU as well 🥲 -
@netikras
Where is this unicorn company that went through these huge efforts only to hire a junior?
I can understand if they did it for a senior position, but junior?!
Then you mentioned that you stay there for 8 years, maybe it's indeed a good company.
Damn...job hunting now sucks compared to that -
Imagine working with boring people AND work in a loud office.
Yes, I am quitting my job soon. -
Why not gold though?
I distrust the government so much that I won't let my future be decided by a bunch of people printing papers. -
I was hired to create/manage CICD
In the end, I also have to do Java development (because nobody in the team can do it)
Now I also volunteer to do Groovy scripting because I am bored (the other dev who can do it is too busy with other assignments) -
@vane
😂😂 This is literally what happened to me. They sent me a EUR 10 gift card for my birthday.
There's no bonus whatsoever. -
@max19931
Fights and arguments during meeting is part of our culture, you know 🤪 -
Because many people work on it.
-
Since you mentioned it, kindly pay the Cat Tax 😸
-
Same here, all the new hires are non-tech ( managers, admin) even though we have notified management that we're lacking technical people.
Who needs another PM?! God-damned it!
This is the main reason why our project is a dumpster fire. -
If yours is an outsourcing company, it shouldn't be hard to place you in other clients projects.
I also work in outsourcing company, though we tend to overwork, we've never had a problem assigning people. We even have to let some positions unfulfilled as we can't find enough people to do it. -
Does it mean that you can do whatever you want to the UI design?
If it were me, I would love it and I will treat as my own project. I am sick of being told to do this/that approach that I don't agree with. -
This is why I don't offer my help unless they ask.
Even after asking for my help and hearing my suggestions, they often still ignore it. As long as their work are not directly affecting my work, I will let them do whatever they want -
You do know that game dev is one of the lowest paid and overworked position right?
Companies are taking advantage knowing that these devs are so passionate about this field. -
As someone who likes fish/seafood in general, I do not want to taste fish in food other than fish
-
I used to be jealous of my siblings getting more attention/support from my mom.
Now not anymore. She can do whatever she wants with her money, even give my siblings all of inheritance without a cent towards me, I still won't be jealous. Why? Because my (actual + potential) net worth is much higher than theirs.
"The greatest revenge is massive success" -
Yep, I am pretty easily offended lately.
Turns out it's a sign of burnout...
Gotta lessen my workload somehow otherwise I won't survive
🤷🏻♀️ -
But what's the purpose of second function returning null though?
Can't imagine a scenario where this is necessary.
Did you set it for testing/debugging and forgot to remove it? -
Nice ....
But what kind of alien language is this? -
Same, the difference is that I am working for a government agency instead
We have consumed 3-5x the original budget for this project and it's not finished yet. I can't do anything about it as I am only low level engineer here 🤷🏻♀️ -
@jestdotty
😂
It's actually one of the sources of my high blood pressure -
@asgs
A PhD is not a requirement. We have several people with STEM background (non-CS). I have a master and a lot people with bachelor degree.
To be fair, he's not really that bad, he managed to finish several of the tasks assigned to him. It's just that I expect more of him as he has a PhD and several YOE.
I was hoping that he can be my peer, discussing and exchanging ideas. Instead I feel like I am babysitting him, even though we're on the same level
. -
@jestdotty
I see, that's an interesting view.
I am just so used to dev working independently that I am quite shocked I met someone with enough experience behaving like him.
He won't survive in our company if he keeps that attitude.
@SidTheITGuy
I told him that the other day, let him work alone, but as a result, he accomplished nothing until the end of the day 😬
