!Rant && !!CS
Today I had to go to school on Saturday because it 's visitor day, when pupuil from elementary school visit our school to decide where to go. My CS teacher asked me to present CS-lessons, so I did. It was much fun showing and explaining our projects to the parents and their children. After the event my teacher suggested me to become a teacher (because I did so well ;-) ) and I am really thinking about it right now. Maybe it is the right choice for me...1 -
I find lately my biggest challenge as a developer is sticking with one editor. Currently it is a battle between Sublime Text 3 and Atom. Not a battle where I switch every few days. This is a battle where I find myself switching at least once a day for no real reason.16

Yay! My first bash project :D
disclaimer - my bash is not pretty. yet.
Why I created it?
I encountered several footlong scripts in a new project at work. And they had no logging. And I am in charge of making it sing again. So here it is a tiny logging framework.1 -
So the head developer at my company quit, and I was chosen to replace him. I haven’t even graduated college yet and am already leading development at a company with over a million active users. Is this real life?14

I know it wasn't ethical, but I had to do it.
Semester 4 started this week, we all got to vote which day we wanted the lecture to be held on. There were quite a few options. My preference was Monday at 7:30pm.
So I entered the poll, as I have every other semester. But I noticed something, this particular poll didn't require any form of identification. Not even a Student ID.
I dug deeper, found that it used local cookies to store weather you'd voted or not, this is obviously a security problem, so I opened up Python and wrote a simple Selenium program to automate this process.
I called it the "Vote Smasher". First it would open the webpage, then it would choose Monday 7:30pm and vote. Then it would clear it's cookies, refresh and do it over again.
I ran it fifty times.
Can you guess what the revealed vote was for UCD SP4 IT was?
I heard my lecturer mutter:
"The votes aren't usually this slanted..."
I could hardly contain my giggles.
My vote won by about fifty over the others 😂
Let me just say, it was his fault for choosing such a naive poll system in the first place 😉36 -
I told an ex there was no way I was gonna let him spend £70 on a bitcoin in 2013, best premature revenge ever1

@dfox just throwing a suggestion out there. How about creating a weekly tips section in which everyone could share useful insight about different tehnologies/OS/languages? Or even create topics in which people could share such things?2

Is there a specific reason your company is called 'Hexical Labs'? If so, could you share the story of where it comes from?2

Reading devRant feed is so fucking hard nowadays. Every other rant is about Windows rebooting, Google being evil, Quantum beating Chrome, M$ users being cunts and all these fanboy shits.
Fucking hell. Write some actual code and rant about some solid problems rather than being a stupid fanboy.12 -
I just set up my 8 year old nephews new (very old) laptop with elementary OS. Took the chance to explain a bit about operating systems and how computers and programs are made and how they work. He is very interested. I'm excited to have a new apprentice!1

You know the story about Battlefront 2? How long it takes to farm points to unlock those cool characters like Darth Vader etc? Yeah, it takes some time. Time that I necessarily don’t want to spend on mindless playing. I thought I’d try to beat the system by building this thing that would play the game for me by moving and jumping every few seconds.
I already have the code ready and now I just need to build the physical thing that will actually interact with the controller.
I am using an Arduino Uno with two micro servos.
Honestly I just want to see if I could build it, I’m not sure I will actually use it (you barely get any points if you’re not killing people anyway).
I’ll keep you posted with the result!13 -
Just debugged and patched a broken loveseat. I looked at the components on the working part and compared it to the components on the broken part. Could not figure out what the actual problem was, so I hammered out a makeshift solution that has things temporarily working.
Sounds like my job. -
Does someone have a clean tool to create flowcharts? All tools that I know look like shit or behave like shit...6

LINUX TO THE RESUCE!
I was helping with stuff for my ComTech teacher. For some reason his mac refused to format an SSD.
Dont worry though, mkfs.hfsplus had no problems :D -
I am an ancient beast called "Humturnal".
..half human..half nocturnal..
I answer life problem and code like a beast at night.
I wake up tired as f**k and I remember nothing in the morning.1 -
Everyone knows Rudolph the red nosed reindeer right?
He guides santa
Was it made to tell to kids whenever they see an airplane fly at night and they see their red lights? -
aw yea, don’t you love it when they cancel the programming section of the computer science gcse and change around the course while you’re 3/4 of the way through it
