I don't understand some devs. Sometimes there are senior devs that instead of documenting requirements on paper, they decide to call you and tell you all the complex requirements for half an hour and expect you to just get up and develop what they just said.

Wtf is wrong with some people. Better: Jira, documentation, e-mail, communication.

Incidentally, I learned from another Senior that being a Senior involves being able to manage other people's bullshit and staying calm, which is very, very hard to do.

theory of mind is a skill that most suck at

because the information readily and easily comes to their mind they think you would comprehend it to the same degree they do. when that's not the case. for you it's new information, for them they walked over that information tens or hundreds or maybe even thousands of times so their neurons are quite well trained in that information but for you it's all new so it's far easier to miss some detail, and that's even if you have good neurogenesis to be able to retain most of the information from a dense lecture where someone describes systems you may have not personally seen or experienced so it's pretty difficult to even know where to pack away their descriptions within your head

RTFM was a good defense once upon a time and they're missing out, tsk tsk tsk

Hmm... an 'An unexplained phenomenon', indeed. https://commitstrip.com/wp-content/... .

@jestdotty Ha... well-explained, jestdotty. Now it makes sense why I had a very difficult time with their theory of mind as well. Yeah, my head gets overwhelmed and I think it is therefore the reason why I also have a hard time.

    lol

@D-4got10-01 I literally don't understand and am unsatisfied with the herding/socialization theories. raaghhh

people are dumber in groups and you yourself are more invested in your own betterment than anyone else ever is of yours. the whole herding idea is disasterous

Being senior also includes having sex with men.

"okay that sounds good, can I have that in writing for future reference?"

Teams has a record button in every call, you just need to click it. That button has saved my bacon multiple times.

I hate calls, and not just because I hate people. Just write it, so I can get to it when ready, there's a record of what you wanted, you can easily correct yourself, and writing makes you think twice, which results in better specs.

If you want to just chat or discuss and brainstorm a problem then yes, but for transfer of knowledge It's awful... I also dislike demos

@lorentz Yeah and depending on corporate you need to have the person first click 'Agree to' or have the option on. Then a corporate agree comes after that when forced org-wide.

@whimsical > 'Being senior also includes having sex with men.'.

No, it doesn't. I know for a fact.

@jestdotty Boggles the mind, indeed. Once I write something down in a manual I do expect people to read it. If they come up to me w/ questions already answered therein, I send them back w/ a 'RTFM'.

Personally I think it's a laziness thing. When encountered w/ a problem, many people tend to just go ask about it, instead of taking some time to search for a solution themselves.

...the amount of questions I see on forums that had already been covered by manuals is staggering.

    @Hazarth > 'I also dislike demos'.

Very true. Demos are lies more often than ! .
