who ever this is, you're spam. first off, i've been on devRant for almost three years now, so i'm not a newbie. second, you're a bot made for the sole purpose of giving ++'s, which is like the dictionary definition of spam. i think you should be banned, and i'd like to hear dfox and other's opinion on this.

@dfox this is against the rules, right?
  • 5
++ bombs used to be the norm, unless it's a scripted ++, it's always been fine.

I guess it comes down to @god-of-newbies being a user or a bot:
  • 5
@C0D4 it must be scripted, any human would have noticed i'm not a newbie here.

also, i just realized i should've tagged this as devRant. sorry for the spam :(
  • 6
@calmyourtities it's a bit of both, I wouldn't call it spam(this rant), being ++ bombed can be annoying or worse a dead phone battery 😉

Hopefully it's not a bot and ruins it though.
  • 2
@F1973 agreed, just accept the ++ bomb and be happy with it, stop polluting the damn feed!
  • 4
If this is Abbie's I will be even further disappointed but not surprised

Edit: and yes, this is a clear violation of the rules. "My creator" would mean obvious upvote bot, which is explicitly disallowed in the rules.
  • 2
Also: looks like it avoids detection by only upvoting comments, hiding it's rulebreaking conduct. Shameful.
  • 2
@F1973 @AlgoRythm LMFAO why does it seem like his. I mean I’m not saying it’s not but I’m curious.

Also this should be banned it’s annoying and spam and really shouldn’t be tolerated.
  • 3
@F1973 No, why would I do that?
  • 9
@theabbie because many people think you're a high-profile troll and making a bot that disregards a clear rule is right up your alley lmao
  • 0
    Internet fake points. again.
If there was only a way to make money out of it, somehow...

    Oh yes. Influencers, and bots....
  • 4
@AlgoRythm But in this case, it's not me, anyways, if dfox deletes that Account, everything will be back to normal.
  • 2
@theabbie I dunno if it's your English or what but that last part made me suspicious lmao
  • 0
@AlgoRythm At this point, everyone seems suspicious, even unclesam.
  • 1
@AlgoRythm Good thing is bot only ++s comments, imagine if it - -s comments, that would be a huge loss. There should be a minimum threshold before allowing - -s.
  • 0
@F1973 tictactoe bot and memebot (planned) are for making this community fun. Maybe we should impose some more rules on who can ++ and -- so that this doesn't happen again.
  • 0
@theabbie "there should be a minimum threshold" or.. some kind of validation for bots - not sure what that would look like but, this kind of thing may become a larger problem, something for @dfox to think about atleast.
  • 2
@F1973 should be an unwritten rule, no bot should interact with the up/down doots.
  • 3
@F1973 I think that's dependant on the bot.

We only have a dozen or so bots, and the key ones are just utility bots, for example highlight, translate, lmgtfy, ect.. but don't actually do anything beyond post a comment (maybe that's the line we need to draw in the sand?) when called upon for the task at hand. I don't see any issue there.
  • 1
If dfox can't handle everything alone, he can appoint moderators from this community who have been here for long and have contributed a lot. They won't be allowed to delete accounts but atleast limit their activities.
  • 9
This serial incrementer needs to be caught.
  • 5
@-red your honor, I present to you, A STRESSFULLY LONG LIST OF INCREMENTS FROM THE DEFENDANT!
  • 1
    @F1973 😂
  • 2
Spam is bad because it pollutes the feed.

    ++bombs don’t.

Please explain why are they bad.
  • 2
Botted ++ dont make sense in the first place.
Isnt the main purpose of ++/-- to rank posts for human users?

Also ++ are shown in you notifications, which would classify a ++bomb as spam
  • 0
@Rotten donations are also spam because they make bank notifications show.
  • 2
    @uyouthe
Let me donate you 1€ real quick.
    100 times a cent
  • 2
    @-red bruh moment
  • 0
@god-of-newbies pleas explain yourself. Why are you such a shit bot.
If nobody supervises this bots mentions, then we might as well delete its account.
  • 1
@god-of-newbies For starters, could you please only give newbies ++es. Maybe even revoke the ++es as soon as they gain traction. Right now your not really helpful.
Your ++es that you spammed my account with might have brought me closer to the next avatar decoration, but that feels shallow, please remove them.
  • 0
@god-of-newbies Thanks, but changing your Sourcecode would be easier in my opinion. Just some remove ++es from function wouldn't be so difficult to program in.
  • 0
@p100sch it’s just a bot account it’s not gonna respond
  • 0
@Bubbles it responded but comments are gone because the account was deleted (and recreated).

The script is spamming now. I've reported already.
  • 3
Whose money is on this bot and the comment ass spammer bot being made the same ass hat?
  • 3
Oké did this guy break devRant because it's misbehaving now. The notifs section in my app is messed up. It says I have 99 notifications but does not show any in the list.

Oké now it says I have 8 and still shows nothing.

And I'm afraid if I press "Clear", I'll never discover what those were.
  • 1
@-red I think dfox is actively debugging.
  • 1
I don't kmow if I should be grateful or sad that that bot didn't ++ bomb me :(
  • 0
@-red removing of the notifs doesn't reset the count, sadly.

I mean removal of things are NOT intentional either
  • 1
@uyouthe because ++ bombs can be turned to - - bombs with the change of one variable.

Speaking as a long time runner of bots... this can’t be stopped. Twitter can’t. FB can’t. Nobody can.

Anything a user could do, including solving a captcha, can now be done with a bot.

Work in a VPN to your bot scripts and you can even have “bots from around the world”.

We’re a dev community. I think we should allow bots.

Then if your good enough to make a bot net, and you are also pathetic enough to use it on this small backwater site in order to gain the adoration or infamy from like a dozen devs, have at it.

Edit: full disclosure. I have only this account. I am not the botter you’re looking for.

@HiFiWiFiSciFi There are limitations on --, it gets disabled after few --
  • 2
    @HiFiWiFiSciFi what Abbie said
  • 1
@theabbie IDK... I’m not going to try this... I like it here.

But I ran fucking rickshaw across Reddit, Voat, 9gag, Twitter for the last three years.

It’s a game. Any protections can be overcome.

    That’s the fun part.

Would I be able to - - again if I change user? Change IP? Clear cache? Spoof my MAC?

Now I have a programming challenge.

So we need to make it “not fun”... and guys... this thread is making it VERY FUN for them. They are laughing their asses off.
  • 1
@HiFiWiFiSciFi We should have ignored this bot but it was affecting everyone, we can't stop such bots but these are unethical bots, anyone who makes such bots likes to harm things. that's a universal problem.
  • 1
@theabbie I mean. I agree. And Dave (I think... I’m new) can find the IPs and perma block them.

Hell if I can get that bot to click a link, I can find their IP...

But the botter can just rotate IPs and users.

IDK, Voat makes it so you need 100 points before you can vote. So you HAVE to interact with the community for a day or two in order to be able to bot.

Makes much more difficult to write a script to farm users.
  • 1
@HiFiWiFiSciFi That would definitely make it difficult but still the creator can upvote it's legit comments to reach the threshold. Also, it would make things difficult for newbies. Any Bot Protection will create inconvenience for all users and dfox doesn't want that.
  • 1
@theabbie Two factor auth for users?

Twitter eventually shut me down because I got sick of trying various ways to spoof phone numbers.

And that meant user farming had to be done by hand.
  • 2
@HiFiWiFiSciFi Yeah, they also have Recaptcha if they suspect bots. These things are difficult to implement, the founders have full-time Jobs and can't invest that much effort. Currently, we are fine with this system.
  • 1
@HiFiWiFiSciFi of course anything online can be replaced with a bot, we're talking about ethically.

i can change the ip of a bot to get unbanned in the same way i can rob someone in my home country, change my identity and rob someone in another country, but i don't because it's not ethical and society looks down on those actions.
