I got my new Oryx Pro today, from System76. It came with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I opted not to get Pop!_OS or Ubuntu 18.10, as I would prefer to leave the OS on it for the longterm.
Even at 15.6", it's a BIG laptop. It measures 18" from corner to corner, when it's closed. It comfortably fits in my backpack, which is a bit on the small side, but it's probably about 30-50% heavier than a MacBook Pro.
But that size and weight are vindicated by the most thuggish hardware I have ever seen in a laptop. As configured, this machine has a 4.1GHz 8th gen i7, 32GB of DDR4 at 2666MHz, an 8GB GTX 1070, a 250GB nvme system disk, and a 1TB SSD for data.
The display is set by default to 4K resolution, but I cranked that down to FHD for the sake of my eyes and the battery. I will try some games at higher resolution at some point, but for desktop navigation, I get more use out of multiple virtual desktops than in massive resolution.
I will comment tomorrow or the day after with the steps I've taken to bend this beast to my will, and it's also important to say that I have not finished yet. This is just a summary, but I should have been in bed an hour ago, so I'm gonna go do that.9 -
switched from windows 10 to kubuntu 18.10 (yes it's not arch or gentoo) last week, after the previous system crashed and burned
I had no idea, my laptop can be so fast and work almost entirely without a fan. Live is beautiful again!1 -
They just announced Ubuntu 18.04, that will be called "bionic beaver" (i wish i could adopt one of these)
But what scared me the most is that for this website, the #1 feature worth being announced is that the OS will fully support color emojis.
Can't wait for Ubuntu 18.10, Cancerous Crap.

Am I the only one experiencing bugs with Lubuntu 18.10? Damn, my netbook worked perfectly with 18.04, now my battery is always 100% full charged with 4500+ hour left. I know LXQT is very efficient, but 4998 hours more seem quite a big improvement over LXDE, don't know if I can trust it 🤔5

So I decided to try out Kubuntu 18.10, aaaaand it doesn't work too well for me. Oh well, back to 18.04 :v

Quick question/update over a previous rant.
My netbook battery status was always 100% on Lubuntu 18.10, I switched to Xubuntu and the same happens, but it reports correctly with Puppy Linux (old version). I thought the problem was in the battery itself, but now I think it's due to some broken drivers in newer version of Debian-based distros, or it is a bug in newer Linux kernel. But since I have no time to spend on a spare netbook, I'm not willing to test more options.
Anyone has a clue? 🤔

I give up on getting Bluetooth LE to run :/
Got a new 14'' Laptop for travel/mobile purpose. It only got like 2 USB Ports so i thought a fine Logitech 590 might be nice.
I am currently using Ubuntu 18.10 and a tried everything..Arch Wiki had some nice tips, but even then i cannot even detect the damn tool, despite many sites saying hcitool -lescan plus gatttool should do the trick, no avail.
This is quite retarded cause i was really looking forwar to do this. I figure it might be hard but impossible is annoying :/
