Omg, when does the Stupid stop? New Zealand just passed a law that empowers immigration officials to compel travellers to unlock their devices. Otherwise, you pay a hefty fine. They are also allowed to copy the data and do God knows what with.
The horrible invasion of privacy aside, it also brings with it some legal hurdles. What if you are making a presentation or report to an investor or someone you have a fiduciary obligation with. You are carrying IP bound by several NDA's and other funding red tape that would end your life if it got out. Are you in breach if the data gets copied by the gov officials? Worse yet you have zero control over what they do afterwards.
I don't think any of this inspires investor confidence.
Government needs to stop touching things!7 -
Soooo, after raising my issue regarding microsoft's massive invasion of privacy and removing control from the user a couple of my friends, ahem I mean "aquaintances", said this to me:
"Get a mac! So clean, lightweight and user friendly and won't spy on you".
Clearly people who never looked at their list of background processes and installed little snitch. I swear, every couple of minutes something is trying to phone home to Apple.
Now I've been pretty open to all platforms (Win/Mac/*NIX/misc) until recently but this has reached a point it is no longer funny.
When I get a moment I'm gonna shove linux so far up that machine's arse Steve Jobs is gonna feel it in the ether!14 -
Instagram just imported my birthday from my Facebook, which btw, was not specifically linked when I used to post on Facebook.
Mark Fucking Fuckface Fuckerberg's team is destroying Instagram now. Ffs. 😒😒
Why is everyone okay with this invasion of privacy? And when is telegram launching an image sharing platform?30 -
Introducing. Snapchat privacy invasion. You can see where your added friends are if they do not disable it (enable ghost mode).
Good job :)5 -
I went for an interview yesterday and everything went fine, today I was asked to complete a technical test. I have done plenty of these in the past but never have I come across something as invasive as interviewzen.
It records every key stroke and plays it back to the interviewer, I assume they are watching on the webcam and recording audio too. I find the whole concept horrendous.
I closed that shit straight away and will tell them I'm no longer interested.
Anyone used that site before?5 -
What is the probability of alien rootkit signal that would be intercepted by satellite and then executed on modern computers to create AGI that can use cloud computing and digital currency to take over our world ?
From my perspective pretty high 🤣🤣🤣
Let’s convince some government people and create intergalactic cyber attack defense institution, that would keep earth safe from alien invasion, with high money grants so we can prevent those threats.
Maybe Ernest Cline Armada is already a thing.
What you think ?2 -
Yesterday I bought a book. I did not know about it. So I read the first few pages before purchasing it. I did not look for the review online. I paid by card - not through my phone or contactless, just plain old card going into a chip and pin device.
This morning I got an advert in Facebook that I should buy the second part of the book. I know they snoop my online activity. In a weird way I kind of accepted it. I guess my question is how'd they know so much of my personal life.
I'd probably will leave Facebook today. I am sure they are watching this status as well. I hope the jackass behind this learns in my own small way I tried to stand up against their jackassery. Like everyone else here I from IT. I hope some one (or many) from this extraordinary community who is a lot more capable than I am, stands up to this invasion and make an end to this snooping.9 -
Who else feels all these so called privacy laws are just a cover up for further invasion of privacy2

More or less all questions related to socially adequate behaviour (hope I got the wording right)
To be honest, it makes me choke, too.
Especially when HR starts to throw bananas at the new chimp eh sorry dev ( WE do XY every week ... Oh and in christmas... Bla bla bla)
It feels like a huge privacy invasion... And very forced. Me no like.2 -
more people should be learning how to code... we have to prepare for the invasion of programming cat-robots!
which programming language would you use to defend yourself?7 -
I hate Mondays...
So, Yours truly, the multilingual flightless bird leaves his apartment... Locks door... Fucking key gets stuck in lock (had some attempted home invasion attempt last year, left a few things bent).
The last thing I can use today, important project to work on with a deadline close enough to worry about.
I would say that's a classic Error 500 on login kinda situation.
The irony? I fancy myself a pretty good lock picker(A must have for an aspiring pentester) .
Luckily, a quick squirt of gun oil resolved that one... Seriously, how do people manage without a supply of tools and stuff?2 -
Hi.
I wanted to ask this and didn't know where else to ask. How can programmers help the ukrainians, in other ways than donations? I'm specifically looking for programming projects to be implemented, that could in any way help these people.
I currently don't have the circumstances to help with monetary donations, but I want to help them somehow. Do you have any ideas?
Perhaps other people with extra time, like me, could also take some ideas from here and implement them.5 -
So I’ve been recording the same project into dr who bullshit meets the invasion of the body snatchers
If I were sleeping and motivated to finish something some bastardized people would steal it would be so simple to keep progressing through it and it would be contributed allowing people to write their implementations to parse and index Gis formats and integrate a lot of valuable data regarding travel and survivable conditions
Except for all the above mentioned bs which cuts my goddamn motivation down to next to nothing
And no one else seems to see a problem with this across the goddamn board because the pods already sucker their innards out13
