A guy recommended by a friend asked me if I can make him a website for his restobar for the cheapest price.
So, I gave him my cheapest quote.
He then asked if I can make it half of the price, and he'll give me a Jack Daniels shirt, bag and a cap.3 -
Schedule an impromptu meeting with my friend Jack Daniels.
Joking.
Best thing I do is write down the issue on a piece of paper, read what I'm stuck on and realise I have been focusing on the wrong aspect of the issue and a different solution presents itself.
Take a step back, clear your mind and start again.
If not, then remember Jack is available after work. -
My department never has real pressure like real outside deadlines. Except for this project.
Now guess what happened during the final hours of the project:
Fuckin circleCI goes into "degraded performance" (last time it was "partial outage").
I feel like calling my friends Johnny Walker and Jack Daniels over for some late night work. :P1 -
Surely I can't be the only one curious enough to start this discussion; so what's everyone's backgrounds?
I'm sure we're all under the assumption that we're all developers of some sort and like to rant about what we do-- hence the app name-- but what does everyone do? Such as what you make, what you've made, your skill set and a little info about yourself
Myself, I'm a 21 year old male from the North West of England. My name isn't actually Markshall, it's Mark, but I'm a huge fan of Eminem so it's a play on my name on his (Marshall).
I'm primarily focused on web development but I started programming at the age of 11ish in Visual Basic 6 and found the web development was my chosen area of expertise. I know the obvious HTML and CSS, but also know PHP and JavaScript and have lots of experience with MySQL databases and rather extensive knowledge of the jQuery library -- yes, I do know it's a library and not a separate language before people get pissy!
I'm not yet employed by a web development company, I work in retail whilst I freelance my web development skills
I have an online portfolio at http://mark-eriksson.com (needs a little updating-- not all my projects are on there and you're unable to view any information about them)
I write code in Brackets (http://brackets.io) on my 21.5" iMac. I use Google Chrome and have iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. PS4 player. Vodka and Jack Daniels enthusiast.
So, what about you?
Side note: devRant needs an edit feature :-(12 -
Okay guys, after sleeping it over I decided that I didn't need to dump my entire stack of Java/mySQL and instead just slow the hell down on my development time. I'm going from Udemy to a book to help me be a better dev and this is a night and day difference as my book breaks every bit apart and explains it in a lot more depth than having a video walk me through it. What I wouldn't do without Amazon's Kindle service I tell ya...:)
The only major thing I'm changing in this project is committing to one Javascript tool, REACT, as I need a simple tool to ease myself into learning Javascript. Wish me luck. :P
Today I'm starting the project over, but this time breaking it down and going at better pace. Thanks for all the advice guys. :)
...I'm going to need a lot of Jack Daniels for this project aren't I?5
